  • SpaceX’s Starlink broadband service will begin private beta testing in around 3 months, with a public beta opening in around 6 months.
  • Elon Musk revealed this tentative timeline in a tweet after the Wednesday launch of 60 new Starlink satellites.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

On Wednesday afternoon, SpaceX sent one of its Falcon 9 rockets into space. It was carrying 60 shiny new satellites that will eventually become part of the company’s Starlink communications network. SpaceX has been launching the pint-sized satellites into space for months already, with over 400 of them now in orbit around Earth.

The long-term plan is for Starlink to serve high-speed data to just about every corner of the globe, but with an estimated 40,000 satellites needed to fulfill the company’s most grand ambitions, it was unclear exactly how long it would take before the system was up and running in any capacity. Thanks to some tweets by SpaceX boss Elon Musk, now we know.

Did a pharma company really triple the price of a drug capable of battling the coronavirus?

%name Did a pharma company really triple the price of a drug capable of battling the coronavirus? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A pharmaceutical company this month tripled the price of an HIV drug that could be used to help treat coronavirus symptoms.
  • The company claims that the price increase was decided upon months before the coronavirus pandemic began.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

There’s a story making the rounds suggesting that Jaguar Health, a San Francisco-based pharmaceutical company, recently raised the price of one of its drugs by an exorbitant amount after learning it might be used to help treat coronavirus symptoms. As reported by Axios, Jaguar more than tripled the price of Mytesi, an FDA-approved drug that was initially designed to provided relief for HIV patients suffering from non-infectious diarrhea.

While Mytesi typically costs about $668, Jaguar boosted the price to $2,206 earlier this month. In March, Jaguar filed a FORM 8-K with the SEC and disclosed that it asked the FDA for approval to use Mytesi “for the symptomatic relief of diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with COVID-19 and for patients with COVID-19 who have diarrhea associated with certain antiviral treatments.”

Mind-boggling study says smoking might prevent coronavirus infections

%name Mind boggling study says smoking might prevent coronavirus infections by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Doctors in France think that smoking can be both good and bad for people who are at risk of contracting the novel coronavirus infection.
  • Smoking is a risk factor for COVID-19 patients, but one particular substance in cigarettes — nicotine — might prevent infection in some people, or improve COVID-19 prognosis.
  • The French doctors will use patches in a clinical study to see if nicotine might prevent coronavirus infections and help existing patients.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Smoking is terrible for you, as any physician on the planet will tell you. Smoking is a risk factor for various medical conditions and can worsen the outcome for COVID-19 patients. Smoking regular cigarettes is bad for patients who contract the novel coronavirus, as is smoking weed. That’s because the lungs are where the primary battle between the virus and the immune system takes place. COVID-19 complications include shortness of breath and some people end up requiring oxygen therapy and ventilators. But it turns out that smoking may have a beneficial side effect: it might actually help prevent a novel coronavirus infection altogether. That doesn’t mean you should take up smoking, but a substance in cigarettes could prevent some people from getting the new disease, and French doctors now want to test nicotine patches against COVID-19.

Where’s my stimulus check? A new reason your money might be delayed

%name Where’s my stimulus check? A new reason your money might be delayed by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Congress passed a massive, $2.2 trillion stimulus package at the end of March that included money for direct stimulus payments of up to $1,200 for individuals (or $2,400 for married couples) for most Americans.
  • If you’ve been trying to figure out where your stimulus payment is and checking the IRS’ stimulus check status tracker regularly, there’s a new reason to be aware of that might account for why your payment has been delayed.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Even though the IRS has started sending out the first wave of stimulus checks to Americans as part of the $2.2 trillion legislation Congress passed at the end of March to address the economic pain caused by the coronavirus pandemic, millions of Americans are still waiting to receive their money.

There are all sorts of reasons why you might still be waiting on your stimulus check, from the IRS not having your direct deposit information on file (in which case you’ll have to wait for a paper check to arrive through the mail, which will take longer) to filing your taxes late, in which case the IRS wouldn’t have all the information it needs to determine your eligibility in a timely manner. The vast majority of Americans are eligible to get something as a result of this emergency stimulus action, though, which provides for up to $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for married couples (with an extra $500 for each child under the age of 17). You can also check the status of your stimulus payment via a stimulus check tracker the IRS set up. However, a new report has identified another possible reason to be aware of that explains why you might be waiting on your stimulus money a little longer.

Doctors have found a horrible new coronavirus complication

%name Doctors have found a horrible new coronavirus complication by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • High blood sugar levels may lead to coronavirus complications, as sugar mediates the link between the novel virus and cell receptors.
  • A new study says that blood sugar may increase even in patients who aren’t known to be diabetics as a result of the COVID-19 infection.
  • The research says that hydroxychloroquine could be used to block processes that add sugars to protein, and thus improve the condition of COVID-19 patients.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

For a substance that tastes so good, sugar is one of the things around you that can put your life in danger. It’s a risk factor for a number of diseases, and it turns out that COVID-19 can be added to that list. New research says the more sugar you consume, the worse your novel coronavirus case might be. And that doesn’t go just for patients who already suffer from diabetes, a condition that has previously associated with COVID-19 complications. High sugar intake might be of concern in non-diabetics who are infected with the new coronavirus. And the study proposes as a fix for the sugar problem a controversial coronavirus drug you’ve heard of everywhere on TV. The anti-malarial hydroxychloroquine might play a role in reducing sugar concentration in some key areas and thus improve the prognosis of certain patients.

%name True wireless earbuds with 23,000 5 star ratings are down to $36 at Amazon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple’s various AirPods models are obviously the first things that come to mind when most people think of true wireless earbuds, but there are plenty of other options out there that are far more affordable.
  • Even with AirPods and AirPods Pro on sale at all-time low prices on Amazon, you can easily save $100 or even more by trying out a rival brand instead.
  • One of the best deals available right now at Amazon is the wildly popular TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 True Wireless Earbuds, which can be had for just $35.99 for a limited time.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

There’s really no question that among our readers, Apple’s various different AirPods models are by far the most popular true wireless earphones. AirPods Pro are always top sellers, but that’s especially true lately since Amazon has been selling them at their lowest price ever, matching its big sale from Black Friday and Cyber Monday last year. Then in a surprise turn of events, Amazon slashed a whopping $50 off the AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case last week to drop them to a new low price that beat last year’s Black Friday sale by $10.

You really can’t go wrong with either one of those models, or with regular AirPods 2 that are on sale right now for $139. That said, there are plenty of other true wireless earbuds on Amazon right now that are far more affordable than AirPods, even while they’re on sale at all-time low prices.

TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless Earbuds with Wireless Charging Case IPX8 Waterproof TWS Stereo…: $35.99

If you have an iPhone, you’re probably familiar with the brand TOZO. If not, it’s the company that helped start the ultra-thin iPhone case trend with all those paper-thin plastic cases that are available for various iPhone models. They’re made for plenty of Android phones now as well, and there are dozens of different brands that have gotten in on the action. TOZO’s cases are still the most popular ones though, thanks in large part to the fact that they cost less than $10 each.

TOZO’s strategy of selling high-quality accessories at shockingly low prices extends to the TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 True Wireless Earbuds, which are among the best-rated cord-free earphones on Amazon’s entire site. They have accumulated more than 33,000 ratings so far on Amazon, and more than 23,000 of those Amazon ratings are 5-star reviews. They retail for just $40, which is already more than $100 less than the retail price of Apple’s most affordable AirPods. Clip the coupon on the product page, however, and you can snag a pair of these best-selling buds for just $35.99!

Flushing the toilet might give you coronavirus

  • A review of existing research suggests it’s possible that the novel coronavirus may spread via bathroom use.
  • The review, which included studies as old as the 1950s, reveals that a “toilet plume” may contain biological material capable of causing infections.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

One of the aspects of the novel coronavirus pandemic that seemed to take health experts and doctors by surprise was how incredibly easily it seemed to spread from person to person. At first, it was thought that only symptomatic people were contagious, but that was later proven to be false, and we now know that even individuals who have no symptoms can spread the virus to others.

Now, a new review of research associated with disease transmission via feces suggests that it’s at least possible that individuals who test positive for coronavirus may spread the disease to others after using the bathroom.
