We’re in for a spectacular year when it comes to smartphones. Samsung will soon unveil the Galaxy S10 series, the foldable Galaxy F, and its first 5G phones; OnePlus will launch three different smartphone models this year; and Huawei should soon unveil new flagship handsets including its own premium foldable phone. Apple will stick to the same iPhone XS and iPhone XR designs but pack in several new technologies, and Google is rumored to finally make the jump to all-screen phones too. But the most exciting smartphone of the year might come from a company you might not even be aware of.

Remember when Apple would announce products and they’d actually ship on time? Truth be told, it almost seems like a lifetime ago given how many Apple products seem to experience frustrating delays these days. Even new iPhone models, which used to launch like clockwork every September, have launched on a staggered schedule in recent years.

The most blatant offender when it comes to product delays, though, has to be Apple’s wireless charging matt, an almost mythical product known as AirPower. Apple first unveiled AirPower in September of 2017 alongside the iPhone X. Now, February of 2019 is right around the corner and we still haven’t heard a peep from Apple as to when the product might hit store shelves, if at all.

A Samsung exec earlier this month said at CES 2019 that the first foldable phone will be launched in the first half of the year, something we had heard before. Since then we learned that the Galaxy F, which is what we call the device for lack of an actual commercial name, will be properly unveiled during the Galaxy S10 Unpacked event that will take place in San Francisco next month. And now we have a new leak telling us that the phone may launch in stores as soon as late March, or by early April at the latest.

Big storms here on Earth are capable of tearing down power lines and even toppling structures, but no weather pattern you’ve experienced this planet holds a candle to the colossal storms of Jupiter. The gas giant is well known for its incredible swirling vortexes that last centuries, and a new photo captured by NASA’s Juno spacecraft shows off a pair of the largest Jupiter storms getting very close.

The image features Jupiter’s iconic Great Red Spot as well as a smaller but still massive storm called Oval BA, which has been going through a series of dramatic changes over the past couple of decades.

Italian particle physicist Fabiola Gianotti cornered Tesla chief executive Elon Musk last July in London at a gathering of the Royal Society scientific academy. Gianotti, who’s also the director of the CERN organization which oversees the largest particle accelerator in the world, had a question for the billionaire businessman.

CERN has been putting together plans for the development of an entirely new atom smasher, one so big it would dwarf the organization’s existing Large Hadron Collider. The latter is part of a particle accelerator facility on the French-Swiss border and which helped scientists in 2012 confirm the existence of the so-called God particle, the Higgs boson. What Gianotti wanted to know is whether Elon’s tunneling enterprise The Boring Co. would participate in building tunnels under the space for the new particle collider, which is still just an idea at this point but which generated a ton of headlines when the existence of plans for it was made public last week.
