New rumor may shed light on iPhone 11’s advanced camera system

%name New rumor may shed light on iPhone 11’s advanced camera system by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A new post on the Chinese website Weibo has revealed some exciting new tidbits about Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 11. While you’ve likely heard that Apple’s flagship iPhone this year will boast a triple-lens camera design, the Weibo posting — which you might want to take with a huge grain of salt — sheds a little bit more light on what we can expect to see. Specifically, the post claims that the successor to the iPhone XS Max will incorporate a wide-angle lens, a super wide-angle lens, and a 3x telephoto lens. As a point of comparison, the current iPhone XS Max includes a 2x telephoto lens.

Interestingly, the juicy tidbits don’t stop there. The post also claims that the top-tier iPhone 11 may include a 4,000mAh battery and support for 15W wireless fast charging. The current iPhone XS Max, as another point of comparison, supports wireless charging up to 7.5W. While these particular two rumors are intriguing, it’s hard to envision them panning out.

Google Maps is about to get one of Waze’s best features

%name Google Maps is about to get one of Waze’s best features by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google Maps may be Google’s most popular navigation app out there, but the company has a second similar app that’s even better for some people, especially frequent drivers. That’s Waze, an app that Google purchased a few years ago, which does navigation a little differently than Google Maps and other rivals. Waze packs crowd-sourced incident reports that’ll tell drivers about the state of the road ahead. Whether it’s accidents, heavy traffic, or police, the app will notify you while you’re driving to your destination, and even suggest better routes based on this information. Google, we’ve heard a few times already, is working on bringing incidents reports to Google Maps. And one Waze’s best features may be already available to some Google Maps users.

%name The recent ‘Collection #1’ data breach that leaked 773M accounts is only the tip of the iceberg by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Reports earlier this week revealed what’s being referred to “Collection #1,” an 87GB pile of data that included no less than 773 million unique email accounts and more than 21 million different passwords. In total, the database contained some 2.7 billion records, and we already told you how to check whether it contains your email account(s). It turns out that Collection #1 might be part of series of similar data collected from other online breaches, as someone out there has been hoarding all this data, and it’s making it accessible to nefarious actors for just $45.

The Fossil Group announced a pretty big transaction today — the sale of apparently secret smartwatch tech which the leading Wear OS device manufacturer still has under development.

Google is the buyer and is paying $40 million for certain intellectual property as well as for the acquisition of part of Fossil’s R&D team as part of the deal that’s expected to close this month. For its part, Fossil Group — which made today’s the announcement and has developed smartwatches across 14 owned and licensed brands — said the deal showcases both companies’ “shared investment in the wearables industry.”

Apple teams up with Johnson & Johnson to see if the Apple Watch can help prevent strokes

%name Apple teams up with Johnson & Johnson to see if the Apple Watch can help prevent strokes by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple CEO Tim Cook garnered a ton of press coverage recently from one pretty straightforward assessment he gave about what he thinks the iPhone maker’s ultimate legacy will be. At some point in the future, he mused, we’ll all look back and regard Apple’s “greatest contribution” to humanity being its work in the area of personal health — a space where the company has certainly been making an even deeper push these days.

At a core of that work, of course, is the latest iteration of the Apple Watch and all the things it can do around spurring people to be healthier. Everyone already has a sense of some of the most powerful and potentially game-changing features of the Apple Watch Series 4, like its ability to take an ECG right there on your wrist. But Apple is trying to take things even farther — it’s launched a just-announced study with Johnson & Johnson, for example, to see if the watch can be used to spot the risk of a stroke.

Photo battle between the iPhone and the Pixel has a surprising winner

%name Photo battle between the iPhone and the Pixel has a surprising winner by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For as amazing as camera quality on the iPhone is today, the original iPhone camera was nothing to write home about. Equipped with nothing more than a fixed-focus 2-megapixel camera, the original iPhone delivered subpar pictures even compared to other devices at the time.

Apple, though, eventually started throwing a lot of money at camera development. Before long, it seemed that each successive iPhone routinely set a new bar for mobile camera quality that competitors simply couldn’t keep up with. That said, the mobile landscape is always changing and Apple now has some stiff competition when it comes to mobile photography. What’s more, there’s a strong case to be made that Apple these days finds itself playing catch-up when it comes to overall camera quality.

These before-and-after photos of the volcano that caused Indonesia’s tsunami are insane

%name These before and after photos of the volcano that caused Indonesia’s tsunami are insane by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A big chunk of the Anak Krakatau volcano collapsed last month off the coast of a couple of Indonesian islands, with the collapse of that 158-acre section into the water transforming the volcano into basically a flat pancake of its former self. Post-collapse, the volcano that used to tower more than 1,100 feet into the sky was now just a quarter of that size.

The collapse also had a deadly consequence. It triggered a tsunami with waves of up to 10 feet tall that slammed into the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra. More than 400 people were killed, 1,400 were injured and thousands more were left without homes.

Well, now we know why Netflix felt comfortable announcing the largest price hike in the history of the streaming service a few days ago.

Raising prices would be exactly the wrong move if you were shedding subscribers and your business was spiraling, which is certainly not the case here. The streaming giant just reported its fourth quarter earnings performance after the market close today, which included the announcement that Netflix added 8.84 million subscribers during the holiday quarter. That grows its total count almost 26 percent, to 139 million subscribers worldwide.
