Pixel 3 XL Lite benchmark suggests this isn’t the cheap Pixel flagship we wanted

The Pixel 3 phones that Google launched back in October have the same components as most other 2018 Android flagships. But the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were no match for the latest iPhones in speed tests, and Google even had to fix a severe RAM issue via a software update. With that in mind, you shouldn’t expect a better performance from the Lite versions of Google’s newest Pixels, and we have a leaked benchmark to prove it.

Apple wanted to use Qualcomm modems on its 2018 iPhone lineup

%name Apple wanted to use Qualcomm modems on its 2018 iPhone lineup by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A surprising detail that emerged during the FTC’s antitrust suit against Qualcomm is that Apple actually wanted to use Qualcomm chips across its 2018 iPhone lineup. Notably, Apple hasn’t utilized Qualcomm chips since the iPhone 7 and, as a result, it was widely assumed that Apple was flat-out refusing to work with the chipmaker. As it turns out, it was the other way around.

According to testimony from Apple COO Jeff Williams (via CNET), Apple wanted to use both Qualcomm and Intel modems in its iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max models. Qualcomm, however, balked and thus caused something of a mini-panic inside Apple.

New leak indicates SNES games could come to Nintendo Switch Online soon

%name New leak indicates SNES games could come to Nintendo Switch Online soon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The most notable perk of the Nintendo Switch Online service is its library of free NES games. Unlike the Wii and the Wii U, the Switch shipped without a Virtual Console, which means there’s no other way to play classic games on the console. Unfortunately, the selection of games has been rather limited, with just two NES games added this month. The good news is that there are signs the feature will improve drastically in the near future.

Over the weekend, a modder who goes by KapuccinoHeck claimed on Twitter that he “was finally able to look around NES Online’s strings a bit myself and noticed the sheer amount of SNES games planned.” Over 20 SNES games are mentioned in the code that Kapu shared, which you can view in full here on Pastebin.

The US Army is working on autonomous weapons that don’t need human operators

Will the military weapons of the future be killer robots, essentially? Recent comments from a US Army official might spark such concerns, given that he acknowledged the army is very much looking into the development and use of completely autonomous weapons that don’t need human operators.

At a Defense Writers Group breakfast a few days ago in Washington DC, the Army’s Assistant Secretary for Acquisitions, Logistics and Technology Bruce Jette argued that when it comes to operating weapons, the human factor could increasingly prove dangerous by its very existence. If everyone else, in other words, is going all-in on the development of AI-controlled weapons, it will be dangerous for us to still rely heavily on the human-operated equivalent which would be easily outmatched by machines, Jette argued.

iPhone XR to see more price cuts in China, report says

%name iPhone XR to see more price cuts in China, report says by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A series of reports last week claimed that not only is Apple cutting iPhone prices for retailers in China, but that some of iPhone resellers in the country are passing even more significant savings on to customers.

A few days before that, Apple announced a guidance correction for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2019, following a weaker than expected iPhone sales performance during the period, with particular emphasis on China. Now, a new report says that Apple may not be done cutting iPhone prices in China this year.

NBC plans to launch its own free streaming TV service in 2020

%name NBC plans to launch its own free streaming TV service in 2020 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’re one step closer to complete market saturation as Bloomberg reports that NBCUniversal (which owns MSNBC, CNBC, Syfy, USA Network, and more) plans to launch a free streaming service next year. The service will have ads, but NBCUniversal says that there will be an ad-free version available to users as well for a fee.

As has been the case with other media companies that have launched or are planning to launch streaming services in recent years, NBCU says that it will “retain rights to certain titles for its new service,” which seems to imply that some shows currently available on other platforms will be eventually be exclusive to NBC’s service.

Smartphone production could plummet 19% this quarter to its lowest point since 2013

%name Smartphone production could plummet 19% this quarter to its lowest point since 2013 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Companies like Apple and Samsung have blamed China in recent weeks as the reason for their respective smartphone sales slowdowns. More broadly, meanwhile, factors like steadily rising handset price tags — with premium models starting at $1,000 and above — as well as better all-around quality have led consumers to wait longer than ever to upgrade and increasingly hold on to their current models as good enough for now.

All of which are among the reasons a new industry estimate predicts that global smartphone production will plummet another 19% this quarter, marking the fifth straight first-quarter decline.

Every photo of Tesla’s next-gen Roadster

%name Every photo of Tesla’s next gen Roadster by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The exciting thing about Tesla’s next-gen Roadster, aside from the car’s outrageous specs, is that may actually launch on time. Now if you’re inclined to scoff at that prediction, well, I can’t say I blame you. After all, every single vehicle Tesla has ever released has been subject to prolonged delays. That notwithstanding, it stands to reason that the production missteps Tesla experienced with the Model X and the Model 3 will help inform production on the next-gen Roadster and help Tesla launch the car in 2020, as initially promised.

The specs on Tesla’s next-gen Roadster, in case you’ve forgotten, are absolutely mind-blowing. Specifically, the sports car boasts a blazing fast 0-60 MPH time of 1.9 seconds and can get up to 100 MPH in just 4.2 seconds flat. Beyond that, the Roadster will reportedly boast a top speed in excess of 250 MPH, making the car a certifiable speed demon. And while Elon Musk is prone to hyperbole, he wasn’t exaggerating when he said the next-gen Roadster “will be the fastest production car ever made.”

The 5G Galaxy S10 will reportedly cost twice as much as the cheapest S10 model

%name The 5G Galaxy S10 will reportedly cost twice as much as the cheapest S10 model by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When the Galaxy S10 X launches next month, it’ll be twice as expensive as the most basic Galaxy S10 phone that you’ll find in stores in March. What’s the Galaxy S10 X, you ask? A report says that that’s the name Samsung chose for a very special Galaxy S10 — the 5G model that’s set to hit stores in Korea first.

The name is incredibly strange, especially considering Apple’s own iPhone X naming scheme, where X stands for “ten.” Per ETNews, X is both supposed to emphasize the fact that Samsung’s Galaxy S line will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year, but also to stand for “eXperience,” or “eXpansion.”

If I had a ton of extra cash lying around, I would definitely buy the new Microsoft Surface Hub 2 when it comes out later this year. I mean, seriously, look at how friggin cool this thing is:

https://boygeniusreport.files.wordpress.com/2018/05/surfacehub2gif.gif

But alas… the original Surface Hub cost more than $10,000 and I would imagine the second-generation model won’t be far behind. Long story short, there’s no way I’ll ever have a Surface Hub 2.
