In a mammoth study comparing mobile data speeds of U.S.-based carriers across various cities, Verizon emerged victorious more often than not. But the study, conducted by PC Mag across 30 U.S. cities, revealed that competition amongst carriers is closer than it’s been in quite some time.

In putting together its report, PC Mag said that it ran “more test cycles than ever before: 131,000 cycles over 30 cities and thousands of miles of driving.” In addition to measuring 3G and 4G speeds across different carriers, the study also looked at which carriers tend to perform better on a region by region basis.

This past weekend was an interesting one for Apple. After months of negotiations with record labels to secure a free three-month trial period for Apple Music, Taylor Swift swooped in with a Tumblr post and flipped the script in less than 48 hours.

Apple, if you recall, was able to persuade record labels to sign off on a substantially longer royalty-free trial period by agreeing to pay 71.5% of all subscription revenue once the trial period expired. This figure is marginally higher than the industry norm of 70%. Note: these figures represent U.S. royalty rates only.

The hackers have been attacking the company’s network for months, collecting data on its operations and software. But it turns out that intelligence agencies including the NSA and GCHQ have spied on antivirus companies for years, looking for exploitable vulnerabilities.

People around the world love their pet dogs, which is why they’re understandably horrified that a province in southwestern China is having a festival that revolves around the slaughter and consumption of 10,000 dogs every year. The BBC informs us that despite worldwide outrage at the festival, the Lychee and Dog Meat Festival in Yulin in Guangxi province will continue as planned this year.
