You know those pesky new net neutrality rules? They’re not perfect, but they are shockingly consumer-friendly considering they were spearheaded by the FCC’s former cable lobbyist boss. There’s no question that they will help ensure that the Internet is a level playing field by preventing carriers from prioritizing traffic and throttling bandwidth. Of course, that’s why several big ISPs hate them so much.
Among the carriers that hate the new rules is AT&T, which hasn’t exactly tried to mask its feelings on net neutrality in the past. Behind closed doors, however, it appears as though the company is willing to completely forget that net neutrality violates its rights and harms its business… as long as its acquisition of DirecTV is allowed to proceed.

Reports last year revealed that U.S. law enforcement agencies might have special aircraft at their disposal that masquerade as cell phone towers and collect data from the unsuspecting citizens as it flies. New information on the matter reveals that the FBI is indeed behind the planes, and it uses more than a dozen fake companies to conceal its air support missions, which include these “Stingray” cell phone-spying equipment.

The old adage of, “If a product is free you are the product” isn’t lost on Apple CEO Tim Cook. During a recent speech delivered at an Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) event in Washington D.C., Cook championed Apple’s core belief that user privacy and security should remain at the forefront of all products and services.
TechCrunch on Tuesday posted highlights from Cook’s talk, where the Apple CEO and operations wiz passionately emphasized Apple’s unwavering commitment to privacy.
“Like many of you, we at Apple reject the idea that our customers should have to make tradeoffs between privacy and security,” Cook stated. “We can, and we must provide both in equal measure. We believe that people have a fundamental right to privacy. The American people demands it, the constitution demands it, morality demands it.”

Not many people can pride themselves of being able to run or at least walk a marathon when they’re in the prime of their lives, let alone at 90-years of age. But Harriette Thompson isn’t such a case. The amazing 92-year old has become the oldest woman to run a full marathon. What’s even more impressive is that she started running when she was 76, and has completed 16 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego marathons since first attending one.

2008’s 700MHz auction was very good for AT&T and Verizon but not so good for its competitors. Granted, Sprint and T-Mobile have themselves to blame for the outcome of that hugely important spectrum auction since they didn’t make bids in it, but it’s also the case that the smaller carriers are financially outgunned by the wireless industry’s two biggest players. Now the two carriers are teaming up with Dish, several rural wireless carriers and public interest groups such as Public Knowledge to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself with the upcoming auction for spectrum on the 600MHz band.

Of the companies adopting USB-C ports so far, Apple made the boldest move yet by packing just the one port on its new 12-inch laptop.
