This is one of the coolest iPhone tricks we’ve seen, and you had no idea it existed

Apple’s mobile platform iOS began its life in 2007 as a surprisingly simple operating system. Whereas earlier smartphone platforms were complex to the point of being overbearing, the iPhone stripped away all the bells and whistles, and left the user with only the features he or she needed. Or rather, the features Apple said he or she needed.

Since then, iOS has grown more and more complex as hundreds of new features are added each year. On the plus side, more functionality obviously makes the iPhone more useful and capable each year. But this flood of new features also means that there are some great things you’ll never find because they’re buried.

Of course, that’s where we come in.

How well is the Galaxy S6 selling for Samsung? Pretty well… but nowhere near as well as Apple’s iPhone 6. Counterpoint Research released new data on Tuesday suggesting that while the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge were together outselling last year’s Galaxy S5, they still trailed both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in monthly sales in April 2015… despite the fact that Apple’s newest iPhones had been out for more than six months at that point.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 edge is my favorite Android phone. People who don’t appreciate design or differentiation will tell you that the edge display is silly or useless, but more discerning smartphone users want something beautiful that separates them from the pack. And of course, the Galaxy S6 edge can walk the walk as well as it talks the talk, as benchmark performance tests have repeatedly shown that the S6 and S6 edge are the most powerful smartphones on the market.

As it turns out though, there may be a bigger, better version of the Galaxy S6 edge on the horizon.

Video: Samsung unleashes a seizure-inducing ‘GIF-powered’ Galaxy S6 ad

Samsung’s marketing team is normally first rate but every once in a while they produce an ad that’s… baffling. Not as baffling as HTC’s godawful Robert Downey Jr. ads, mind you, but baffling nonetheless. For example, its new “GIF-powered” ad features a woman unboxing the Galaxy S6 and then using it to make lots and lots of GIFs for no apparent reason. It seems to be a Samsung ad that’s aimed exclusively at teenage girls, although we’d be wary of letting them watch the ad if they’re prone to having seizures.

The blows keep coming for Jay Z’s Tidal

No matter how bad you mess something up, you’ll probably never screw up anything as badly as Jay Z and company have screwed up the launch of Tidal. Last week, we saw reports saying that Tidal was in danger of losing the rights to stream artists from Sony’s catalog — including the songs of Jay Z’s wife and flagship Tidal artist Beyoncé — unless it forked over a big advance that the company was having trouble finding money to pay. Music Business News has filled in some more of the details on this story and it looks like Tidal still hasn’t come up with the cash to pay off Sony.
