If you want to see space rocks exploding in Earth’s atmosphere apparently you’d be best served by moving to Russia. At least that seems to be the case now that yet another fireball has appeared in the skies over Siberia, catching the eyes of countless citizens and giving everyone just the tiniest bit of a scare.

The object, which exploded over the town of Krasnoyarsk in Siberia, didn’t cause any damage and there have been no injuries associated with it visiting Earth in a blaze of glory. What it did do, however, is provide a reason for lots of people to look skyward, and thankfully several of them had cameras rolling.

Samsung: We will remain the global smartphone leader for the next decade

Never mind that Samsung Electronics Co., the global smartphone maker leader as ranked by device shipments, reported a 60 percent slump in quarterly operating income a few days ago — the worst such drop in more than four years. A slowdown in smartphone sales, as well as plunging memory chip prices, were mostly to blame when the company reported its latest earnings.

DJ Koh, the CEO of Samsung’s mobile division, tried to sound bullish anyway in a new interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, in which he declared that foldable technology will help the company recapture some of its mojo. Also, he brushed off the threat from Huawei, which wants to displace his company atop the global rankings, and confidently promised that Samsung will remain the smartphone market leader for at least another 10 years.

In addition to supporting Wi-Fi 6, the latest generation of Wi-Fi technology with speeds of up to 3Gbps, Netgear says the Nighthawk AX4 will help provide a “huge boost in total network capacity and reliability.” The company goes on to note that the quality of the connection for each Wi-Fi device will also be improved by reducing the interference between them, thus ensuring that any lag or buffering is reduced during online gameplay or streaming Ultra HD 8K/4K video.

Thanks to hits like ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ movie theaters have nothing to fear from Netflix

If there’s anybody you’d think would be among the first to proclaim that Netflix and its rival streaming services are eating away at the business of traditional movie theaters, the theaters and movie distributors would be at the top of your list, right? Surely, they’d be the first to acknowledge that Netflix alone — which is spending several billion dollars just this year on commissioning new content and licensing third party shows and movies — is giving people another reason to stay home and avoid the crowds, sticky floors and expensive cinema tickets. Right?

Turns out, the idea that Netflix is killing movie theaters is a pretty easy myth to knock down. That’s based in part on the slew of billion-dollar blockbusters teed up for 2019, like Avengers: Endgame coming later this month, which is expected to help propel the US box office this year to a record $12 billion.

In 2018, NASA launched a mission to do something that scientists have never done before. The Parker Solar Probe mission is truly the first of its kind, venturing closer to our star than any spacecraft has ever dared, and it’s already broken a number of records.

Now, the spacecraft is continuing its incredible journey by completing its second close approach to the Sun, bringing it to the record-setting distance it achieved during its first pass. As NASA explains in a new blog post, scientists are eager to examine the scientific data the probe is gathering during time closest to the Sun, and thus far everything appears to be going as planned.

Facebook has had a couple of rough years when it comes to transparency, user privacy, and security. From the Cambridge Analytica scandal from last spring all the way to the most recent security issue, Facebook had to convince the general public and regulators around the world that it’s going to change its ways in the coming years.

And it looks like the giant social network is finally going to care about its users. It’s not really a choice, however, as Facebook appears to have been forced into agreeing to new business policies in the European Union.
