Apple Card will hopefully spur other banks to ditch credit card numbers, too

%name Apple Card will hopefully spur other banks to ditch credit card numbers, too by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The new MasterCard-branded credit card that Apple introduced this week has gotten a lot of attention, much of it for things that the card doesn’t have. Things like late fees or over-the-limit fees, as well as the lack of a credit card number — which presumably makes it a more secure alternative to traditional plastic.

And while Apple Card of course will work exclusively within the iPhone maker’s sprawling ecosystem, one of the lesser-talked about effects so far of Apple’s introduction of this product is the effect it could have outside of Apple. Take, for example, that last part we mentioned, about the lack of a credit card number.

A Galaxy S10 update might add the Pixel 3 feature people can’t stop talking about

%name A Galaxy S10 update might add the Pixel 3 feature people can’t stop talking about by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung’s Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ were finally released earlier this month after nearly half a year of leaks and rumors built up all sorts of hype. Somehow, despite all that anticipation, Samsung’s new flagship smartphones managed to deliver. Last year’s Galaxy S9 phones were boring and disappointing in so many ways. They sported the same hardware design as their predecessors and they didn’t introduce a single compelling new feature. Thankfully though, the Galaxy S10 series is as exciting and new as the Galaxy S9 was boring and old.

The S10 phones have a great new all-screen design, they’re the first phones in many markets to sport hole-punch cameras, they have the most secure in-display fingerprint sensor on the market, and there’s plenty more where that came from. There’s one important part of the smartphone experience that some people believe Samsung didn’t focus on quite enough, however. But now it looks like the company is considering updating the Galaxy S10 line with a software feature from Google’s Pixel 3 that people have been buzzing about ever since the it was released almost six months ago.

How could anyone pass up this awesome Anker fast wireless charger for just $14?

%name How could anyone pass up this awesome Anker fast wireless charger for just $14? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We have some good news and some bad news, but luckily the bad news isn’t really all that bad: the sale on Amazon that slashed the best-in-class $24 Anker 10W Fast Wireless Charging Pad down to $13.29 is done. It’s definitely a bummer, but there’s a silver lining to this dark cloud — a new sale on the same excellent wireless charger just kicked off, the it’s only 70¢ more expensive than it was before! That’s right, if you missed Amazon’s earlier sale you can still take advantage of Amazon’s new sale and snag this charger for $13.99. It’s the best wireless charging pad we’ve tested, and you’d have to be crazy to pass it up at this price.

Anker Wireless Charger, 10W Qi-Certified Wireless Charging Pad, Compatible iPhone Xs Max/XR/XS/…: $13.99

Here’s more info from the product page:

FOR BEST RESULTS, use a Quick Charge adapter (9V/2A) for Samsung Galaxy charging and a 5V/2A adapter for iPhone.
  • LED Indicator: The LED indicator lets you know the charging status. If the indicator is FLASHING BLUE, check to make sure that there are no objects between your phone and the charging surface. If the indicator is FLASHING GREEN, make sure you are using a 5V/2A adapter, or try a different adapter and cable.

I really hope the iPhone 11 steals this incredible feature from Android phones

%name I really hope the iPhone 11 steals this incredible feature from Android phones by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If I’m being honest, and I always am, I’m more than a little disappointed with what I’ve seen so far about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11. Early information has leaked from multiple reliable sources, and it doesn’t paint a pretty picture. The world’s top Apple insider is analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and his sources say Apple’s iPhone 11 lineup will feature better waterproofing, a new frosted glass back, a bigger battery, the ability to wirelessly charge other devices, upgraded Face ID, and new rear cameras. That all sounds great of course, but there’s not really anything on that list to get excited about. Then, things got even worse when the iPhone 11’s “new” design was leaked by another well-known and reliable source. Why is “new” in quotes, you ask? Because it looks just like Apple’s old iPhone design, but with a rear camera that has been reoriented and centered.

If that big design leak pans out — and we have every reason to believe it will — Apple plans to use the same basic design for the third consecutive year on its upcoming new iPhone 11. It’ll look just like the iPhone XS, which looks just like the iPhone X. Making matters even worse is the fact that this would happen right after Apple left a different iPhone design mostly unchanged for three consecutive years; unless you’re an avid Apple fan, you might not even be able to tell the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 7 apart from across the room. If Apple does reuse its 2017 iPhone design yet again in 2019, it’ll hopefully pack some seriously exciting new features into the phone. There’s one such feature Apple could easily steal from new Android phones, and I really hope it does.

Apple’s second-generation AirPods are finally here! Woo hoo! Well, actually, it turns out they’re really not that big a deal. In fact, they don’t even offer any improvements at all to sound quality or even design. Instead, they support “Hey Siri” and there’s an optional wireless charging case you can buy them with that costs $40 extra. Considering you can get an AirPods wireless charging case on Amazon for under $19, we’ll pass. If you don’t care about Hey Siri and you want a new pair of Apple’s true wireless earbuds, pick up a pair of first-generation AirPods right now on Amazon at a discount.

Huge spoiler: Someone who worked on ‘Avengers: Endgame’ confirmed a main character will die

%name Huge spoiler: Someone who worked on ‘Avengers: Endgame’ confirmed a main character will die by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Marvel Studios and Disney do everything they possibly can to prevent Avengers: Endgame spoilers from leaking. Try as they might, however, there are simply too many moving parts to keep everything secret. Hundreds of people had a hand in making the movie itself, and then there are plenty of partner companies involved with different aspects of the production and with marketing the movie. When you have that many people out there with inside information, some of it is bound to leak and there’s really nothing anyone can do to stop it.

With less than one month to go before Avengers: Endgame premieres in theaters across the globe, we’ve seen some pretty big leaks over the past week. Two in particular stand out from the crowd. First, a leak from a Lego toy set confirmed a key part of Avengers 4’s plot, and we now know how the remaining heroes plan to defeat Thanos and perhaps even how they’ll undo all the deaths from the snap. The source of the second big leak isn’t quite as solid, be he might have spoiled the entire movie by providing details about key events in each of Avengers: Endgame’s three acts. It might be a while before we can confirm the details of that big leak, but the latest Endgame leak can be confirmed right away because it comes from someone who actually worked on the film. A big spoiler lies ahead, so don’t read any further if you’d rather not spoil the surprise.

Microsoft becomes the hero we need by banning April Fool’s Day pranks

%name Microsoft becomes the hero we need by banning April Fool’s Day pranks by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It seems like a lifetime ago, but there was actually a time where April Fools’ Day pranks from tech companies were novel, creative, and actually entertaining. More than a decade ago, for example, Google put together a fictitious account of how it uses pigeons to help organize its search results, a technology it dubbed PigeonRank. It was fun, it was innocent, and it was quite obviously all a joke.

These days, though, it seems that every single tech company on the planet is obsessed with rolling out April Fool’s Day pranks that are weighted more towards deception than quirky fun. The results can sometimes be beyond embarrassing, with Google’s 2016 Gmail Mic Drop prank being a prime example. If you recall, Google incorporated a special send button that added a gif of a minion from Despicable Me dramatically dropping a microphone at the bottom of emails. Additionally, recipients were unable to respond to such emails, hence the mic drop aspect. It seemed innocent enough, but users soon began hitting the wrong ‘send’ button by accident and chaos ensued.
