Japanese scientists think they know where the Ryugu asteroid came from

Japan’s Hayabusa2 spacecraft has been hanging around the asteroid known as Ryugu for several months now. It first arrived in late 2018 and, in February, fired a projectile into it surface to collect a sample from the rock. It still has plenty of work to do but things are moving along nicely.

Now, after learning more about the asteroid itself, Japanese scientists believe they know where the object originated, narrowing down its possible asteroid “parents” to a pair of larger rocks. Conclusively determining Ryugu’s origins won’t be easy, but the color of the asteroid has helped researchers narrow things down quite a bit.

Huawei will unveil the P30 Pro next week — a flagship that will compete with the Galaxy S10 and iPhone XS, featuring a multi-lens camera with a periscope lens that can’t be found on any iPhone or Galaxy. We’ve seen a bunch of leaks so far covering the phone’s design, specs, and price, as well as a video highlighting the new zoom and low-light photography features of the handset. But, with just a few days to go until the press conference in Paris, Amazon has already listed the handset, confirming all the previous rumors and spoiling Huawei’s reveal.

Red Bull scared a bunch of people in Los Angeles with a fake meteor

A meteor streaking across the skies of Los Angeles is something we’ve all seen at least once in a big-budget Hollywood flick, but L.A. residents saw it for real last night… or at least they thought they did.

On Wednesday evening a massive fireball flew across the L.A. skyline and was caught on camera by hundreds of people. Social media began bustling with discussions about what it could be, if it was actually a space rock or a chunk of satellite debris, and whether it had done any damage. As it turns out, it wasn’t a space rock at all, but a marketing stunt.

T-Mobile unveils home broadband service that could expand after Sprint merger

T-Mobile on Thursday unveiled a limited home internet service that it plans to pilot for 50,000 mobile customers at $50 a month, with the company promising it could build on that, and eventually offer a lot more once its $26.5 billion merger with Sprint finally goes through.

For now, the new invitation-only service will focus on areas where the carrier can deliver high-speed internet access to connect up to 50,000 homes in rural and underserved parts of the country. Once it merges with Sprint, however, T-Mobile says it should be able to cover more than half of the US with broadband service by 2024.

Nokia phones caught mysteriously sending data to Chinese servers

Nokia fans waited for years for the first Nokia-Android handsets to arrive, and it finally happened two years ago, when HMD Global unveiled its first Nokia 6 handset, after acquiring the right to use the brand. Since then, HMD unveiled a variety of Nokia handsets, culminating with the Nokia 9 PureView a few weeks ago.

However, the old Nokia has nothing to do with the Nokia phones we’re seeing today, and all these devices are made in China by Foxconn. This brings us to HMD’s first China-related issue, as some Nokia phones have apparently sent data to servers in the region without consent from users.

Report claims Boeing has been forced to delay first Starliner launch by months

NASA needs a way to get astronauts to the International Space Station that doesn’t involve paying Russia heaps of money, so it struck deals with both SpaceX and Boeing to build crew capsules capable of fulfilling that need. Earlier this month, SpaceX successfully sent its Crew Dragon capsule to the International Space Station, paving the way for crew tests to be conducted within months, but what about Boeing?

A new report from Reuters suggests that Boeing is having a much, much harder time getting its Starliner spacecraft ready for its first big test. Boeing, which analysts thought would beat SpaceX’s Crew Dragon to delivery by a significant margin, has now reportedly pushed back its maiden flight to the space station by several months, and the first crewed flights won’t happen until close to the end of the year, if they happen in 2019 at all.

Walmart may develop its own game streaming service, because why not

Days after Google unveiled its Stadia game streaming platform, and with other tech giants like Microsoft keen on streaming as the future of gaming, the biggest retailer in the world apparently wants to play, too.

Walmart is reportedly in talks with developers and publishers to launch a game streaming service of its own, according to a report from US Gamer. The caveat, of course, is that these are still just talks for now, and that it’s not clear how far along Walmart’s plans are — or if anything will even come of them.

Shocker! Facebook improperly stored hundreds of millions of passwords in plain text

Over the past few years, Facebook hasn’t done much to convince users that it takes user privacy as seriously as it should. Indeed, it seems that the social networking giant can’t even go a month without some new scandal or security breach making the news. Most recently, Facebook revealed that the passwords of hundreds of millions of Facebook and Instagram were improperly stored in plain text on internal servers. In short, Facebook employees could have potentially looked up the passwords for individual users, though there’s no indication that this actually happened.

Nonetheless, many would argue that Facebook hasn’t exactly earned the benefit of the doubt with respect to security and user privacy.

With just over a month left before Avengers: Endgame hits theaters, it’s entirely possible that we will not see another full-length trailer or any more additional footage from the movie until April 26th. That doesn’t mean the marketing push is over, though, as evidenced by a new TV spot that Marvel shared on its YouTube page today. There doesn’t appear to be any footage we haven’t seen before, but it does do a good job of summarizing the latest trailer.
