iOS 13 will finally fix of one of the most annoying things about the iPhone

Apple’s next-gen iPhone lineup will likely have a few nice surprises in store for us, but believe it or not, I’m actually more excited about the release of iOS 13. As you may remember, a number of high-profile bugs and system performance issues in 2017 and 2018 prompted Apple to scale back a number of its more ambitious iOS features when rolling out iOS 12. As a result, iOS 12 was something of a Snow Leopard release to the extent that its main selling points centered on behind-the-scenes improvements such as more efficient battery life.

That’s all well and good, and if we’re being honest, sometimes its necessary for Apple to pump the brakes a little bit and focus on polishing existing features as opposed to rolling out new ones at breakneck speed. That said, Apple has had more than enough time to really add some shine to whatever features it was initially planning to introduce with iOS 12, which is why iOS 13 is definitely worth getting excited about.

Samsung will take the wraps off the Galaxy S10 on Wednesday during an Unpacked press conference in San Francisco, and the company is also expected to tell us more about the “Galaxy F” foldable handset. A leak earlier this week said the phone’s official name is Galaxy Fold, and it suggested a launch is imminent. Since then, a couple of images have leaked to give us an early look at the phone’s final design just hours before Samsung’s big event.

Forget the Galaxy S10, Xiaomi’s brand new Android phone with 12GB of RAM is insanely affordable

%name Forget the Galaxy S10, Xiaomi’s brand new Android phone with 12GB of RAM is insanely affordable by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s Galaxy S10 day today, but that didn’t stop some of its rivals from coming out with brand new smartphones. While LG chose to unleash a flurry of affordable mid-range phones that will not compete against the Galaxy S10 series, Xiaomi went a lot bigger than that. The Xiaomi Mi 9, which was spotted in plenty of teasers ahead of Wednesday’s event, is going to deliver a few impressive features, including support for up to 12GB of RAM. And, unlike the 12GB Galaxy S10 that will be quite costly, the Mi 9 will be incredibly affordable if you can find it in stores that is.

LG brings multi-camera phtography and notch designs to affordable Android smartphones

%name LG brings multi camera phtography and notch designs to affordable Android smartphones by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s February 20th or Samsung’s Galaxy S10 day, but that didn’t stop its archenemy LG to announce a trio of new smartphones several days ahead of LG’s MWC press event. The devices aren’t direct competitors of the Galaxy S10 series, which is supposed to feature three 4G versions and at least one 5G model. But they do pack features that you’d usually see on flagship phones, like a notch design and multi-lens cameras.

Move to Singapore for the fastest internet in the world, according to this chart

%name Move to Singapore for the fastest internet in the world, according to this chart by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Residents in Buffalo may have felt a reason to gripe in recent days, when separate analyses — from technology firm Ookla as well as The Buffalo News — found that internet speeds there rank among the slowest in the country.

As with any comparison, of course, it’s good to keep in mind that while the grass might seem greener elsewhere things can also always be worse. Indeed, a new analysis of internet speeds and the cost people pay for connectivity around the world published by UK-based site Compare the Market shows how much service varies around the world, which will give some people reason to be jealous or satisfied — depending on where you live.

We finally know why grapes go nuclear in the microwave

%name We finally know why grapes go nuclear in the microwave by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’ve ever searched for ways to make plasma at home (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?) you’ll quickly come across an interesting kitchen experiment that involves one or more grapes. By placing two grapes or two halves of a grape right next to each other in a microwave and then firing it up, you’ll see a flash of sparks and white-hot plasma forming between them… but why?

A new research paper attempted to answer that burning question, and they managed to destroy a whole bunch of microwaves in the process. Their work, which is detailed in a new paper in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reveals that the grapes and microwaves have a rather bizarre relationship.

This is what a foldable iPhone with a clamshell design might look like

%name This is what a foldable iPhone with a clamshell design might look like by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

At least as far as the tech press is concerned, all eyes are on Samsung tomorrow, as it seems poised to finally unveil its first foldable smartphone — which will apparently be called the Galaxy Fold — at the company’s Galaxy S10 event set for Wednesday. And it’s not just Samsung, of course.

A slew of other smartphone manufacturers including Huawei, Xiaomi, LG, Oppo and Motorola likewise have foldable phones teed up in some stage of development. And as we reported in recent days, the same goes for Apple, for which a patent was just published covering “Flexible Display Devices” — an outgrowth of Apple’s study of this form factor the iPhone maker has actually been pursuing for a few years now.
