NASA’s Opportunity rover had a long, eventful stay on Mars, but unfortunately those days are now behind us. The rover has been officially declared dead after a dust storm last year caused its batteries to remain dry and cold, preventing it from waking back up.

There’s been several heartfelt tributes to the robot over the past few days, and the scientific community is mourning the loss of Opportunity (or “Oppy” as it’s been affectionately nicknamed) in various ways. One such tribute recently gained a lot of attention on social media, and for all the wrong reasons.

Marvel TV president pens letter to fans, includes subtle dig at Netflix

The Hollywood Reporter is out with a piece today that announces what it describes as the “start of the new streaming world order,” which may sound a bit dramatic, but is a reference to the unsurprising completion of Netflix’s purge of original Marvel TV series from its platform.

The motivation for the piece was the announcement yesterday of the cancellation of the final two Marvel series on Netflix — The Punisher, the second season of which will mark the series finale, and Jessica Jones, which still has a third season on the way to Netflix that will serve as its last. However, fans shouldn’t necessarily lose heart, as there’s still reason to hope the heroes from at least some of these and other cancelled Marvel shows may yet live on.

In his first interview since the arrest of his daughter in December, Huawei’s until-now reclusive founder struck a defiant tone in response to questions from the BBC — with the billionaire businessman promising the news service that there’s “no way the US can crush us.”

“The world cannot leave us because we are more advanced,” Ren Zhengei told the BBC, adding that “Even if (the US can) persuade more countries not to use us temporarily, we can always scale things down a bit.

New gestures might make Android Q look more like iOS than ever

%name New gestures might make Android Q look more like iOS than ever by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Google unveiled Android Pie last year, it also introduced new navigation gestures that looked a lot like what Apple did in IOS 11 for the iPhone X. The iPhone without a home button needed a new set of gestures that would allow users to get back to the home screen, open the multitasking panel, and shut down apps.

Unlike iOS, which needed the new gestures, Android would have worked perfectly without the change. After all, Google kept the three-button menu in place on Android for years, even on devices that lacked physical home buttons. Come this year, Google will further refine the navigation gestures, a new leak revealed, which will make Android Q devices behave a lot like the iPhone.

Even AT&T knows that its 5G E icon is misleading

%name Even AT&T knows that its 5G E icon is misleading by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

AT&T over the past few weeks has been on the receiving end of a lot of well-deserved criticism regarding its use of a 5G E symbol on phones that don’t actually support 5G. As you may recall, the 5G E symbol will appear on both Android and iOS devices that happen to be in areas with support for AT&T’s fastest LTE technologies.

The ‘E’ in 5G E stands for Evolution and is undeniably fast, with AT&T noting that 5G E enables “peak theoretical wireless speeds for capable devices of at least 400 megabits per second.” Is that impressive? Sure. But despite AT&T’s protestations, there’s no getting around the fact that the 5G E symbol is purposefully misleading to end users who might assume that they’re actually on a 5G network.

New study suggests your furniture might be making your family sick

You’d probably never think that something as innocent as a sofa could pose a risk to you or your family but a new study out of Duke University raises that very possibility. The research focused on children in homes with furnishings that contain specific compounds, and the findings are a bit unsettling.

The research, which was presented at this year’s annual American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Washington D.C., revealed that the potentially harmful compounds are found in elevated levels in the blood of children who live in homes with certain kinds of furniture and flooring.

Qualcomm reveals new Snapdragon X55 modem to accelerate the viability of 5G

%name Qualcomm reveals new Snapdragon X55 modem to accelerate the viability of 5G by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Qualcomm Inc. president Cristiano Amon said today he thinks the new Snapdragon X55 modem his company has just announced will, among other things, help accelerate the commercial momentum of 5G technology and “power virtually all 5G launches in 2019” as the technology continues to roll out globally.

Qualcomm announced the first details of the X55 today, noting that it will enable operators to accelerate 5G deployments when the modem starts shipping toward the end of this year. Among the other details, the X55 is a second-generation 5G New Radio modem that supports download speeds of up to 7 gigabits per second and 3 Gbps upload speeds over 5G, according to the company.

‘Arrested Development’ season 5 will conclude on Netflix in March

%name ‘Arrested Development’ season 5 will conclude on Netflix in March by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Arrested Development was unceremoniously canceled by Fox well over a decade ago, fans held out hope that some day, another network would bring the Bluth family back to life. Seven years later, their prayers were answered by Netflix, but the resulting fourth season was something of a mess — due to a variety of unavoidable scheduling issues and baffling decisions by the writers — and thus the show once again went on hiatus.

It took another full five years, but against all odds, Arrested Development returned for a slightly more coherent fifth season in May of 2018, but we only got the first eight episodes (of sixteen). Eight more would round out what could end up being the final season of the show, but we didn’t know when we’d get those episodes.
