Samsung’s Galaxy F (seen in the unofficial render above) may turn out to be the first decent foldable phone that you’ll find in stores this year, but the Korean giant is hardly the only company working on such devices. Huawei is also expected to unveil its first foldable phone soon, a device that should also feature 5G connectivity. On top of that, we already saw a bunch of videos showing Xiaomi’s foldable phone prototype, which has a design that seems to be even better than the Galaxy F. If that’s not enough, a company called Iqoo might be making a foldable phone featuring a different design than Samsung and Xiaomi, and a new leak might’ve just revealed the device for the first time.

Report claims Apple’s first new iPhones of 2019 will be released this month

%name Report claims Apple’s first new iPhones of 2019 will be released this month by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Call a coincidence or whatever else you want, but it is certainly a bit odd that both of the world’s top two smartphone companies found themselves in the same troubling position last year. Samsung and Apple, the top two smartphone makers in the world by profit and revenue, each badly misjudged the smartphone market in 2018. Rather than continuing to push the envelope and introduce exciting new designs or features on their flagship phones, they released new handsets that looked exactly like their predecessors and features no new marquee features whatsoever. At the same exact time, they had the audacity to make these boring new phones their most expensive handsets ever, further pressuring consumers to look elsewhere or just hold off on upgrading.

Where Samsung is concerned, the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, and Galaxy Note 9 were each a spitting image of the company’s 2017 smartphones. They brought nothing new or exciting to the table, and sales plummeted as a result. Thankfully, the company will begin to right those wrongs as soon as next week, when the completely redesigned Galaxy S10 lineup is expected to debut. Apple, on the other hand, doesn’t launch next-generation iPhone models until the fall each year. That’s a long time to wait before Apple releases anything new in an effort to boost sales, so it’s understandable that the company would do anything it can to help give shipments a bump between now and then. With that in mind, a new report out of China suggests that Apple’s first updated iPhones of 2019 will launch much sooner than expected. In fact, the report claims that they’ll debut later this month.

Will the Galaxy S10+ with 12GB of RAM be faster than the iPhone XS?

%name Will the Galaxy S10+ with 12GB of RAM be faster than the iPhone XS? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Android vendors have been steadily increasing the amount of RAM on phones in the past few years, moving rapidly beyond 4GB of RAM, and then surpassing the next logical milestones — 6GB and 8GB of RAM. All the while, Apple failed to keep up with its rivals, and that’s because RAM alone isn’t enough to make a phone run faster. Apple focused on chip technology and software optimizations to deliver iPhones that were faster than the competition both in benchmarks and real-life speed tests. That’s not to say that more memory won’t pay off, at least on Android, and we saw last year that some handsets with 8GB of RAM would outperform the 2017 iPhones in real-life speed tests, in spite of trailing Apple’s handsets in benchmarks. The first Androids with 10GB of RAM followed, and now Samsung will unveil a Galaxy S10+ version with 12GB of memory.

Hunters in 24 US states warned of ‘zombie deer’ disease

%name Hunters in 24 US states warned of ‘zombie deer’ disease by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Deer hunting is a big deal in many U.S. states, and surveys suggest that around 10 million hunters participate in the activity regularly. As any hunter will tell you, nabbing a deer isn’t always the easiest of tasks, but a growing risk of disease is making things even more difficult for sportsmen even after they’ve bagged a buck or doe.

Public health officials and infectious disease researchers are doing their best to raise awareness of an illness that has now been confirmed in deer populations across at least 24 states. It’s called chronic wasting disease, and the Centers for Disease Control fears that it may be possible that the disease could spread to humans who eat infected animals.

Cable could lose over 39 million subscribers this year to streaming services

%name Cable could lose over 39 million subscribers this year to streaming services by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The bad news keeps getting worse for Big Cable, and there’s no end in sight. The latest? UBS this week released the results of its media consumption survey that offers a look at how media like TV is faring these days, and one of its takeaways that ought to scare legacy cable providers is that 20 percent of respondents said they’re thinking about ditching their cable package and cutting the cord in the next 12 months.

From that, we can make a few arguably reasonable assumptions. According to Variety, about 196.3 million Americans were paying for cable at the end of 2017. If you use the 20 percent total from the UBS survey, that gives you a figure of 39 million potential cord-cutters. Which is certainly possible, given that an estimated 33 million Americans were forecast to cut the cord last year.
