If you already have trouble finding the exact emoji you’re looking for, well, things are about to get a tad more complex. Earlier today, the Unicode Consortium provided its official stamp of approval for new emojis that will likely start showing up on iPhone and Android devices later in the year. The list of new emojis is more inclusive of individuals with disabilities, which is something Apple actually pushed for early last year. With that said, some of the new emojis include people in wheel chairs, bionic arms, seeing eye dogs, and more.

Some other new emojis we can look forward to include a fresh assortment of animals, including a sloth, a skunk, an orangutan, and a flamingo. Some of the more obscure emojis to make the cut for 2019 include falafel, waffle, a band-aid, and ballet shoes. All told, 59 new emojis will be coming our way soon. Incidentally, that figure jumps to 230 emojis once all the variations of skin tone and gender are taken into account.

How to watch Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night

There was some question as to whether or not there would even be a State of the Union this year, amid the chaos of the government shutdown, but now that the government is back up and running (for the time being), President Donald Trump has opted to go ahead with his address on Tuesday night. If you’d like to tune in and find out what Trump has to say, there are an endless variety of options, both online and off, for you to choose from.

As for the contents of his speech, we won’t know until it begins at 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET in front of a joint session of Congress, but we have a feeling that the border wall he so desperately wants to erect between the US and Mexico will be on the list. Trade policy and tariffs will inevitably come up as well.

Chinese satellite snaps image of the Moon from the side we never see

%name Chinese satellite snaps image of the Moon from the side we never see by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Moon dominates the night sky and, as the closest large body to Earth, we get to see it plenty. Unfortunately, since the Moon only shows us one face thanks to its tidal lock with Earth, and its far side is rarely the subject of photography.

Now, thanks to China’s efforts to learn as much as possible about the least-studied side of the Moon, we have a brand new view of it. The image, which was captured by the Longjiang-2 satellite that was sent skyward last year, even features Earth photobombing scene in the background.

New market research suggests the smart speaker race is pretty much over

%name New market research suggests the smart speaker race is pretty much over by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A new market research report out from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners offering a look at the smart speaker landscape paints a pretty lopsided picture of the state of things, such that you might justifiably read the key takeaways and wonder if the race is pretty much over at this point.

Among the key findings: First, the smart speaker market continues to grow. It’s consistently ticked upward from 36 million units in December 2017 to 53 million units this past September to, now, 66 million units. That’s been helped along, according to the CIRP data, in part by the fact that the number of people owning more than one of these speakers is likewise growing. Through December 31, 35% of all smart speaker owners reported having more than one such device, compared to just 18% of owners saying the same thing one year earlier.

A meteorite exploded over Cuba and its boom was captured on video

%name A meteorite exploded over Cuba and its boom was captured on video by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Space rocks come crashing down to Earth with somewhat startling regularity, and when they do they often create a big boom. When a meteorite detonates in Earth’s atmosphere it produces an explosion which researchers call bolides, or simply “fireballs.”

Most of the time, a fireball appears and disappears before anyone is quick enough to grab their smartphone and record it, so we’re left with dash cam videos and still images from stationary cameras to give us a glimpse of the event. Last week, a fireball came crashing down in Cuba and, in a rare treat, we actually get to hear it.

New ABC Entertainment president says she’s open to a reboot of ‘Lost’

%name New ABC Entertainment president says she’s open to a reboot of ‘Lost’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat: There’s nothing definitive to report about anything new related to ABC’s hit series Lost that ran for six seasons starting in 2004. That is, nothing definitive… yet.

During a panel today as part of the winter gathering of the Television Critics Association, new ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke’s presence was preceded by some clips that were played from ABC’s heyday and included some of the network’s most popular shows. The clip kicked off with that memorable scene from the third season finale of Lost, the one in which Jack (played by Matthew Fox) practically begs Evangeline Lilly’s character Kate to go back to the island (“We have to go back, Kate!”).

Hmm, we have to go back… If you’re thinking what we’re thinking, well, so did a reporter who was on hand. Surely, that clip couldn’t have been included by accident, out of all the Lost clips that could have been included?

The iPhone’s most sophisticated feature will hit more Android phones this year

%name The iPhone’s most sophisticated feature will hit more Android phones this year by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When the iPhone X launched in late November 2017, we expected Android vendors to quickly copy the phone’s new features. That ended up being true, to some extent, but most iPhone X clones last year only replicated the notch design of the phone, not the notch itself. In it, we have the various components that make 3D facial recognition possible, and only a couple of companies released phones last year with Face ID-like functionality.

Several reports in early 2018 revealed that Apple had secured a supply of Face ID parts for the iPhone, or the components that delayed the iPhone X’s launch to November. Analysts then said that Android phone makers would need two years to catch up to Apple when it comes to Face ID support, and it sure looks like that prediction is coming true: A report says that we’ll see more Android phones with Face ID-like features starting this year.

A magnet bouncing on a trampoline is way more interesting than it sounds

%name A magnet bouncing on a trampoline is way more interesting than it sounds by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Magnets. How do they work? The good folks over at the YouTube channel Magnetic Games know exactly how, and they do all kinds of neat videos showing off how magnets can be used for entertainment. As Laughing Squid discovered, their latest video is a real doozy.

You should all know by now that magnets have what is known as a magnetic field surrounding them. It’s the invisible force that makes magnets attract or repel, and other materials like metal react to it. The only problem is that you can’t really see it… or can you? To find out, Magnetic Games dropped a couple of ultra-strong magnets on a tiny trampoline covered in magnetite sand, and then filmed it in super slow motion.

This $15 portable mini tire inflator is a must-have in every car

%name This $15 portable mini tire inflator is a must have in every car by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Driving around without a DBPOWER Portable Mini 12V Tire Inflator in your car or SUV is basically asking for trouble. This affordable little gadget makes it insanely easy to top up your tires when pressure gets low, and that’s especially important now that temperatures are dropping across the country. Aside from the fact that driving with your tires filled to the recommended PSI is safer, it also helps improve gas mileage. That’s a win/win if we’ve ever seen one.

DBPOWER Portable Mini 12V Tire Inflator, Auto Air Compressor for Cars, Bikes, Motorcycles and I…: $14.99

Here’s some more info from the product page:

  • 【VERSATILE AND USEFUL】 This mini-sized DBPOWER tire inflator is a very useful tool to have in your car or garage. It’s so compact then it can be held in your hand. Designed to inflate tires for cars, bikes and motorcycles, it can be use with an array of other inflatables thanks to the 3 nozzle adaptors included. It’s a great companion to have with you on the road, on a trip, or vacation.
  • 【EASY AND FAST TO USE】 It may be compact, but it is not lacking in inflation power! It will inflate a standard mid-sized car tire from 0-35 psi in 10 minutes. You may be thinking this is not that fast, but considering this pump can fit in the palm of your hand, it’s a pretty impressive speed. Simply plug into a car cigarette lighter socket, start inflating and manually turn off the compressor once the desired pressure has been reached.
  • 【COMPACT SIZE FOR EASY STORAGE】 One of the best benefits of this tire pump has to be its size. Designed small and light, it can easily be held with one hand. This makes it great to use for inflating smaller items such as sports balls. It really doesn’t take up any space at all and can easily be stored in places such as a glovebox or under a car seat.
  • 【LONGER POWER CORD】 The charging cable is 3m long enabling you to reach all four car tires of even longer model cars without difficulties! Don’t be inconvenienced or annoyed again by those inferior air pumps that can barely reach the back tires!
  • 【BUY WITH CONFIDENCE】 All customers are backed by our 12-month “No Questions Asked” warranty. Tech support and professional customer service are available should you have any problems.
