Back in 2017, Apple’s design boss Jony Ive revealed to the world what the perfect iPhone design would look like, at least in his eyes. According to Ive, its appearance would “appear like a single sheet of glass.” The idea of an iPhone with no seams or other design elements that might interrupt its smooth lines is certainly exciting. The display on the front might appear to have no borders as it curves around to the back of the phone, and things like cameras and other sensors would be hidden behind the glass.

An iPhone design like that might seem as though it’s far-fetched, but it’s actually not some futuristic, sci-fi vision of a smartphone. Instead, we’re likely just a few years away from seeing all of those design elements become a reality. Bezels have already almost been completely eliminated by smartphone makers, and Apple patents reveal that the company is indeed working on ways to hide cameras and other sensors behind the display. But despite the fact that Apple is still at least a few years away from making this type of design a reality, another company might have just come closer than anything we’ve ever seen before.

With CES 2019 almost done, the next major tech event will take place next month in Barcelona, Spain. But this year’s Mobile World Congress edition won’t be the home of Samsung’s Galaxy S line. The last time the Oscars went ahead with no host was in the late 80s. In lieu of a single overarching presenter, producer Allan Carr and director Jeff Margolis gave viewers an 11-minute musical number by way of an opener. Actor Rob Lowe did a widely panned version of Proud Mary with Snow White, of all things, and the overall production has been described in some circles as responsible for ruining Carr’s career.

Maybe the next time around will be different. We’ll certainly know soon enough, as the Oscars seem poised to try to go in that direction — without a host — once again, according to a new report in Variety.

As of yesterday, we’re two months away from the much-anticipated theatrical release of Captain Marvel. And judging by the results of advance ticket sales which got under way this week, the film is no doubt going to break records and draw in massive crowds.

Monday marked the first day of presales for the movie, which by some accounts is headed for a more than $100 million opening and will introduce fans to the story of Carol Danvers as the 21st addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And speaking of the MCU, according to online ticket site Fandango, the advance ticket sales for Captain Marvel are already beating the comparable first 24-hour sales of films like Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

As it always does, winter has covered many parts of the world in a dusting of snow to start the year. Last week we were treated to some lovely images of a rare substantial snowfall in Arizona and New Mexico, and now we’re seeing a similarly special sight in Greece, where snow has blanketed the capital of Athens and given its historic structures a winter makeover.

As Reuters reports, Greece has been slammed with record low temperatures this week, causing major problems for residents while also creating some lovely photo ops. Public transportation is seeing delays and schools took the day off while the city dealt with the bizarre weather.

If there’s one thing we learned from Apple’s protracted legal battle with Samsung, it’s that Apple has no qualms about sitting back, racking up huge legal expenses, and letting justice run its course. And so, with Apple and Qualcomm’s current legal dispute now a good two years in, it appears that the two tech giants will head to trial in order to figure out who owes who what.

Interestingly enough, the respective CEOs of Apple and Qualcomm recently threw a few jabs at each other in the press this week. It all started when Tim Cook, who sat down for an interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer, was asked about Apple’s recent legal losses to Qualcomm in Germany and China. If you recall, Apple recently stopped selling certain iPhone models after receiving adverse rulings in both countries.

The best thing coming out of CES 2019 might be a product that regular mortals don’t get to see, and that’s because Samsung showcased a Galaxy F prototype to clients behind closed doors. Samsung, of course, showed us cleverly hidden renders of the phone back in early November when it unveiled some of the technologies that will power the gadget, including the Infinity Flex screen and the One UI interface that it developed with Google.

But partners got to see the foldable handset in person, and it looks like they were mostly impressed with what they saw, though Samsung still has some issues to fix. A new report now tells us that Samsung confirmed the foldable phone would launch in the first half of 2019, just as previous rumors said.
