Earlier this year, Pixar released a poignant, stunning short film called Bao alongside the equally fantastic Incredibles 2. It was the first of Pixar’s countless shorts to be directed by a woman, and tells the story of “an aging Chinese mom suffering from empty nest syndrome” who gets a second chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings suddenly comes to life. Rather that eat the dumpling, she ends up raising it as her own child.

Pixar’s shorts always seem to have a lesson to impart upon viewers, but Bao takes its time developing the story until a shocking twist gives way to the true meaning of the short. Bao accompanied Incredibles 2 throughout its theatrical run earlier this year, but if you happened to miss it, Pixar just uploaded it to YouTube.

We’ve already seen sound waves do some pretty amazing things. For example, they can turn a regular, boring stream of water into a mesmerizing work of moving art, and even cause small particles to float in mid-air. Now, researchers have developed a powerful sound wave system that not only causes objects to seemingly defy gravity, but also allows each particle to be manipulated independently for the first time.

The system, which the scientists have called “Holographic Acoustic Tweezers,” is detailed in a new paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, but a video showing the technique in action is probably the best way to understand its capabilities.

AT&T on Tuesday announced it’s the first carrier in the US to launch “a mobile 5G device over a commercial, standards-based mobile 5G network,” as its 5G network went live in several US cities.
