With 2019 right around the corner, the year-end retrospectives about how we digitally spent the last 12 months have already started rolling in. Just last week, for example, Spotify rolled out Spotify Wrapped, which tells users which songs and artists they listened to the most over the past year. And earlier this week, Netflix released a list of the most binged shows across 2018.

In light of that, one of the more interesting 2018 retrospectives we’ve seen focuses on which Google searches were the most popular across each state. Specifically, AT&T tapped into data from Google Trends and came up with a rather amusing look at the most popular “should I…” questions on a state by state basis.

9 new movie trailers you need to watch from this past week

%name 9 new movie trailers you need to watch from this past week by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The best thing happening at a theater near you this week is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but I get that there’s a chance you’re not necessarily a fan of superhero movies, or in the mood for one. In that case, I’d point out to you the completely over the top sci-fi adventure Mortal Engines, a Peter Jackson creation.

An even more interesting alternative is The Mule, a Clint Eastwood film about an old man transporting drugs for the cartel, based on a real story. Finally, re-opening this week is Deadpool 2, but it’s the Once Upon a Deadpool, kid-friendly version. Unlike last week, when we hardly had any trailers to show you aside from the one clip we all wanted to see, we’ve got quite a few for you this weekend, so let’s dig in!

Survey: More people than ever are able to go a whole week without spending physical cash

%name Survey: More people than ever are able to go a whole week without spending physical cash by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Here’s an idea for an experiment: Could you go an entire week without ever paying for something with actual paper currency? Without ever having cash in your hand at any point during the week? Because that, it seems, is where things are increasingly headed, according to the results of a new survey that measures peoples’ behavior regarding the use of paper currency versus plastic.

About 3 in 10 US adults, roughly 30 percent of the population, are going a whole week at a time without ever using cash to make a purchase, up from 24 percent in 2015. That’s according to a new Pew Research Center survey, which also shows that of those who say almost all their weekly purchases are made in cash, the number has dropped precipitously from 24 percent in 2015 to 18 percent today.

Samsung’s foldable phone rumored to have killer specs and a massive battery

%name Samsung’s foldable phone rumored to have killer specs and a massive battery by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung unveiled its first ever foldable smartphone last month, but it was hardly a proper announcement. Samsung showed off the phone’s Infinity Flex screen design, revealed the phone would have a large screen on the inside and a smaller one on the outside, and demoed bits and pieces of the new interface it developed with Google for the unnamed phone.

That’s about everything Samsung was willing to tell us about the phone, leaving plenty of things out of this first foldable phone presentation. However, a report that talks in great detail about the future of foldable devices also shares new information about Samsung’s new phone, including camera and battery specs.

Jacob Snow, a technology and civil liberties attorney for the ACLU, has been making the rounds telling media outlets that a newly publicized patent from Amazon paints a picture of a dystopian, “nightmarish” future. Strong words for a patent application that’s starting to make headlines over fears that Amazon could use the Ring doorbell camera company it acquired to build a robust tool for creepy surveillance.

%name Only the cheapest Galaxy S10 will come in an exciting new color, report claims by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Apple unveiled the iPhone XR back in September, the company confirmed what some reports revealed in the months preceding the announcement: That the most affordable Apple phone would be available in a variety of colors. And some of those colors look great. Samsung, a new report says, will launch the Galaxy S10 in a bunch of colors next year as well, but only the cheapest model will be able to match one of the best iPhone XR color options.

Talk about inauspicious timing.

Facebook announced a bevy of new updates today for its Portal video chat hardware that already had some people a little squeamish about inviting the social network into their home via a dedicated piece of hardware with a camera. Those updates, however, quickly got overshadowed by news of yet another privacy flap at the social network, which today disclosed a bug that exposed private photos of up to 6.8 million users.
