Christmas came a bit early for commuters cruising along Route 3 in New Jersey on Thursday morning. Skies were cloudy, but instead of snow tumbling onto the pavement, it was cold, hard cash.

According to local news reports, a Brinks armored truck crashed on the highway and spilled an untold amount of money. As you might expect, seeing bills bouncing across the highway was enough to cause a bit of a hiccup, not to mention multiple greedy folks holding up traffic as they scooped dollars off the ground.

New Facebook bug exposed private photos from millions of users

%name New Facebook bug exposed private photos from millions of users by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It seems that we can’t even go a few weeks without some new story about a worrisome Facebook bug emerging. Earlier today, the social networking giant revealed that one of their internal teams discovered a photo API bug impacting third-party apps. Specifically, some third-party apps may have had access to a broader set of a user photos than typically allowed, both public and private, for about 12 days in late September.

When it comes to third-party Facebook apps and their access to user photos, the way it works is pretty simple: apps can only access public photos which appear on a given user’s timeline. The bug in question, however, granted access to all sorts of photos, even photos that weren’t fully posted to the site.

NASA’s InSight lander is the new kid on the Martian block, and it’s already snapping selfies and telling its handlers back on Earth all about its new, dusty home. But it’s not the only piece of high-tech hardware with eyes on the Red Planet, and NASA used one of its other machines, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, to catch a glimpse of the newly-landed robot as it sits silently on the planet’s surface.

In a series of new images, NASA shows the final resting places of the lander itself as well as the spacecraft’s heat shield and its parachute, as seen from high above.

When it comes to protecting things like money and other valuables, you should definitely rely on a big metal safe installed in your home by a professional. For smaller things and medicines though, the iKeyp Pro Smart Safe is one of the cooler safes we’ve come across. It has telescoping sides that make it easy to install securely in a medicine cabinet or a drawer, and you can open it with a PIN code or a key. But the best part is the smartphone connectivity — you can open it remotely from your phone or set it up so that you get smartphone alerts if someone else tries to open it.

Here are some key details from the product page:

  • Install in seconds
  • 24/7 security monitoring

Bees can wear backpacks now thanks to the University of Washington

%name Bees can wear backpacks now thanks to the University of Washington by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Wearables are all the rage for us humans, delivering all kinds of useful information about our bodies and surroundings. Now, scientists from the University of Washington have developed a wearable system for a much, much smaller creature. Engineers from the university created tiny sensor-packed “backpacks” for bumblebees.

As you might have guessed, the devices don’t deliver any information to the bees themselves, but instead funnel data back to researchers for a variety of purposes. With tiny rechargeable batteries that last for around seven hours, the backpacks collect data about location as well as temperature and humidity. These metrics can be used to paint a picture of the health of plant life in a given area, and it’s all collected without the use of robotic drones.

When you say you need to hurry up and take advantage of this sale immediately, we couldn’t be any more serious. Amazon has been discounting Apple’s current-generation iPad tablets ever since Black Friday, and the 128GB model has bounced around between $350 and $380. Those are both killer prices, but something crazy just happened: Amazon slashed the price of the Apple iPad (Wi-Fi, 128GB) even lower to just $329! Seriously, see for yourself:

That’s a massive $100 discount and it’s completely unheard of, so there’s a good chance it’s a mistake and it’ll be corrected shortly. But even if it is a mistake, Amazon will still make good on the price if you order before it’s corrected. Hurry!

There are also sales happening today on other iPad models if you want to check them out.
