‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ is a perfect palate cleanser ahead of ‘Avengers: Endgame’

%name ‘Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse’ is a perfect palate cleanser ahead of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I’m as excited as anyone for Avengers: Endgame next year. Infinity War may very well be the best comic book movie of all time, and if this long-awaited climax lives up to expectations, it will be one of the most stunning achievements in cinematic history. But with so much emphasis placed on the grand finale, the more relatable side stories have fallen by the wayside. Even Ant-Man and the Wasp couldn’t avoid the pull of the overarching plot.

So while I didn’t know I needed it, or even wanted it, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sneaked up and forced me to completely reevaluate what I’m looking for in the current era of superhero overload. As invested as I am in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has been developing over the last decade, Spider-Verse gives us a chance to pull over, get out of the speeding vehicle, and remember what makes Marvel comics so great in the first place.

This is the software experience that will power Samsung’s foldable smartphone

%name This is the software experience that will power Samsung’s foldable smartphone by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Last month, Samsung unveiled a bunch of new things it’s working on, including the new Infinity displays created for the Galaxy S10 and foldable phone. The company also gave us a quick preview of its first foldable phone. But Samsung took its time to unveil the software experience it created for the next generation of mobile devices, including the upcoming foldable handset. Samsung obviously doesn’t develop the software of its Android devices, but it does customize the user interface that’s on top of it. The company’s new interface will be called One UI moving forward, and Samsung just released a video to show it off.

World’s most accurate Apple insider says iPhone XR demand is surprisingly weak

%name World’s most accurate Apple insider says iPhone XR demand is surprisingly weak by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The negative stories surrounding iPhone XR sales keep on rolling in. Despite Apple revealing that the iPhone XR has remained the top-selling iPhone model since launch, and despite reports that Apple’s manufacturing partners saw substantial revenue growth in November, it’s impossible to ignore the sheer number of reports pointing to somewhat disappointing demand for the entry-level iPhone XR.

The latest news comes from reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who recently issued a research note (via MacRumors) claiming that iPhone XR demand is below expectations. Put simply, the iPhone XR isn’t spurring an avalanche of upgrades as many initially predicted. As a result, Kuo anticipates that Apple during the first quarter of 2019 will sell anywhere from 38 to 42 million iPhones, a steep decline from his initial projection of 47-52 million units.

If you’re hoping to spot a falling meteor, there are times of the year that are better than others. At the moment the Geminid meteor shower is currently at its peak, making it a bit easier to spot “falling stars” with your own eyes. If you haven’t been lucky enough to witness it yourself, officer Chris Cramer of the Howard County Sheriff’s Department in Indiana has you covered.

Cramer’s cruiser captured video of a particularly bright meteor flashing through the sky late on Thursday night while he was driving, and the department has since published the video for all to enjoy.

Behold: The stupidest smartphone design trend of 2019 is already here now

%name Behold: The stupidest smartphone design trend of 2019 is already here now by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In 2018, the biggest trend in smartphone design among Android phone makers was simple: copy Apple. Nearly every smartphone vendor on the planet used Apple’s iPhone X design on their own phones. It was pretty embarrassing, to say the least. Moving toward “all-screen” phone designs became a top priority this year though, and the iPhone X’s notch was the best way to improve screen-to-body ratios.

Apple wasn’t the first company to use a notch in its smartphone display, but it was Apple’s design that Android phone companies chose to copy. Beginning in late 2018, however, Android vendors finally began to come up with their own designs. We’ve seen all sorts of different solutions for increasing screen size and reducing bezel size, though most of them so far have been pretty horrible. A perfect example can be found on the Oppo Find X, which has a selfie camera that slides up mechanically from behind the display. It’s practically begging to be damaged, and it makes using an effective case impossible.

Thankfully, much better notch-free designs will become prevalent in 2019, such as the Galaxy S10’s Infinity-O screen that has a small hole cut out for the front-facing camera. There will still be some terrible design trends in 2019 though, and the worst one has already hit the market.
