Apple fans have been criticizing Android for years, fighting back against “walled garden” claims by suggesting that Android’s open nature makes it far more susceptible to hacks and malware. This is indeed often the case, but if you think Apple’s closed iOS app ecosystem isn’t also vulnerable to attacks, think again. Millions upon millions of iPhone and iPad users were affected by a major App Store hack that was just uncovered, and now we have a list of some of the apps that have reportedly been infected with malware.

Here’s the bad news: There are some very popular apps on this list, and the odds are pretty good that one or more of them are on your phone right now.

Ever since the release of iOS 9, the tech media has engaged in a collective cryathon over the software’s support for ad blockers that will put major dents in our revenue streams. At the same time, Apple has been reaching out to spooked publishers about offering them a sanctuary from ad blocking if they agree to offer some content exclusively on Apple’s own Apple News app for a limited period of time. Wired this weekend became the first publication to have an Apple News-exclusive story and you can be sure more publications will follow in the coming weeks. All of this is terrible for the open web and the worst part is we in the tech media have only ourselves to blame.

iOS is safer than Android when it comes to malware attacks, but that doesn’t mean hackers aren’t successfully targeting the iPhone and iPad with malicious programs supposed to steal sensitive data. Usually, iOS malware reports explain that jailbroken devices are at risk, especially in Asian countries and that only a tiny fraction of Apple’s massive number of customers is affected. However, that’s not the case anymore.

A substantial security threat called XcodeGhost managed to fool App Store security and sneak into the App Store inside real App Store apps potentially affecting hundreds of millions of iPhone and iPad users on both stock and jailbroken devices. The one thing that’s common with recent iOS hacks is that the threat comes from China.

Say what you will about Tesla’s future prospects, but it’s hard to deny that the Tesla Model S today is one of the greatest consumer-oriented cars on the planet. It’s beloved by a passionate user base and has garnered innumerable rewards — both for performance and for safety — since its release back in 2012. Just last month, the Tesla Model S P85D performed so well during testing that it actually broke Consumer Reports’ rating system.

In today’s modern world littered with sandwich shops galore, it’s easy to take for granted how easily and quickly we can just pop into a store and walk out with a delicious sandwich for just $5. With so many food options at are disposal, it’s similarly easy to forget how insanely difficult and expensive it would be for us to truly try and create our own meals from scratch.

Now sure, we’ve all made a sandwich from scratch with items we’ve picked up from a grocery store, but it’s an entirely different ballgame when you’re making a sandwich completely from scratch. We’re talking about growing your own vegentables, milking a cow for milk, making your own bread, making your own cheese, and even going so far as to killing a chicken yourself.

Why is Apple seemingly stunting the Apple TV as a gaming console?

The soon to be released fourth-gen Apple TV undoubtedly represents Apple’s boldest play for the living room yet. In addition to a smattering of new TV oriented features, the Apple TV also doubles as a gaming console, complete with its own App Store and wireless Wii-esque remote.

Earlier last week, fans excited about the prospects of gaming on the Apple TV were dealt some bad news. As we highlighted just a few days ago, Apple is requiring that all games developed for the Apple TV must work with the Siri-based remote Apple is shipping with each device.

Not mincing words, Apple’s tvOS App Programming Guide says quite explicitly: “Your game must support the Apple TV remote. Your game may not require the use of a controller.”

There’s something fundamentally unnerving about an animal performing a completely surprising physical feat. After all, if you’re already on high alert when in the presence of a dangerous animal, the last thing you need is to be taken aback by some new-found talent you had no idea it possessed.

We’re not talking about flying squirrels here, we’re talking about a full-grown crocodile that can quite literally leap out of the water. Sure, we expect sharks to majestically jump out of the water in an effort to grab a meal, but that’s not a skill most people would even assume a seemingly lazy crocodile might possess.
