Apple’s self-driving car sounds like it’s closer to being unveiled than anyone expected

Apple takes its time launching new products, as the company will sometimes reveal in the aftermath of its announcements. Johny Ive and Co. worked on the Watch for at least three years before making it official, and 3D Touch for the iPhone 6s required “multi, multi multi years” to complete. For the time being, Apple’s Project Titan car is also a more-or-less well-kept secret, but Apple’s first vehicle might also become the first Apple product to be confirmed well ahead of an announcement. After all, it will be very hard for Apple to hide that it’s testing prototypes on the open road, especially if it’s a self-driving car.

Should Apple abandon the iPhone’s ‘S’?

%name Should Apple abandon the iPhone’s ‘S’? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple’s iPhone upgrade cycle over the years has settled into a nice and predictable pattern. Every time Apple introduces an iPhone with a new form factor, it’s followed up by an ‘S’ upgrade that introduces new software and/or hardware features while retaining the same look and feel as its predecessor.

To wit, the iPhone 4s introduced us to Siri, the iPhone 5s brought us Touch ID, and the soon to be released iPhone 6s will bring us 3D Touch. ‘S’ upgrades are the real deal, and a strong case can be made that the iPhone 6s represents the most compelling and feature-packed ‘S’ upgrade to date.

Some of you aren’t even old enough to have ever used anything but a smartphone to make calls in your houses, but the rest of us remember what life was like when we were tethered to our home phones. Microsoft writes patch notes for Windows 10 updates… so why not share them?

For all the praise that we’ve bestowed upon Windows 10 since it launched at the end of July, there are plenty of outstanding issues that Microsoft has yet to address. The privacy concerns certainly take precedence, but the lack of patch notes following mandatory updates is by far the most maddening change in the latest operating system.

Hilarious Cortana fail: Microsoft CEO Nadella got burned while demoing Cortana on-stage

No matter the product, it’s always risky demoing software up on stage in front of a live audience. Software might work great during testing, but once you’re up on stage showcasing it to the world, Murphy’s Law has a strange way of sneaking up and rearing its ugly head. And if you’re so bold as to try and tempt fate by demoing voice recognition software in front of a large crowd, well, may the force be with you.

Unfortunately, and hilariously, this is a lesson that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had to learn the hard way this week. While presenting a keynote speech at Salesforce.com’s Dreamforce conference, Nadella decided to show the crowd what Cortana, Microsoft’s version of Siri, was capable of.

16GB iPhone 6s buyers, here’s one neat solution for your storage problems

%name 16GB iPhone 6s buyers, here’s one neat solution for your storage problems by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The 16GB iPhone curse won’t be as bad on the iPhone 6s, and even on older 16GB iOS devices, thanks to Apple’s storage optimizations in iOS 9. However, features like 4K video recording and Live Photos may eat away at the available storage on the phones, and users might have to find creative new ways to expand their storage.

Apple just slashed the prices of iCloud storage tiers in half, meaning that buying space in Apple’s cloud is even more affordable now. iCloud storage can be used to back up photos and store other files, but the downside of the cloud is that an Internet connection is always required to access them.

That’s where flash drives can come in handy, especially the kind of devices that have both USB and Lightning connectors, so that they can be used on computers and iOS devices.
