Not long ago, what seemed to be the first real photo of the new Nexus 5 leaked and it showed a device that resembled the previous schematics that were reportedly sent to manufacturers. Since then, detailed concept renders of the new LG Nexus 5 and Huawei Nexus 6 have been published online, supposedly revealing the final designs of the two new Nexus handsets. However, real pictures of the Huawei phablet only surfaced online early on Monday.

As far as DIY projects go, this overhead control panel may very well be the most impressive contraption we’ve ever seen. Put together by a Reddit user who goes by the name Smashcuts, the control panel — which boasts an awesome design straight out of a Sci-Fi movie — sports a number of captivating and vibrant LEDs alongside 100 programmable buttons which can do almost anything you can think of.

From opening apps and saving documents, to performing specific functions in applications like Adobe Photoshop, the wide array of functions this control panel can carry out is truly remarkable.

The entire project took a few months to put together, with the final creation weighing in at about 40 pounds.

Here’s how it was all put together, from the hand wiring to the laser etching and everything in between.

Though not a household name in the United States, there’s still a good chance you’ve heard of Xiaomi, a Chinese electronics company that designs and manufactures smartphones, tablets, HDTVs, and an wide assortment of other consumer products.

Since releasing its first smartphone in 2011, Xiaomi’s popularity has increased substantially, in part because the company is generally shameless about copying hardware designs from other companies, and from Apple in particular. Over the past two years or so, there have been no shortage of examples where new Xiaomi products seem to be borderline carbon copies of existing Apple products; the company has even copied Apple event invitations.

That aside, the key aspect to Xiaomi’s success is that the company operates on razor thin margins and offers compelling devices at much cheaper pricepoints than the competition.
