I can’t remember the last time I only carried one smartphone with me on a daily basis. My main handset has been an iPhone since the device first debuted in 2007, but even then I also had a Nokia or a BlackBerry phone with me at all times. As sleek and exciting as the iPhone was, there was just too much functionality it didn’t include, and I wanted it all.
Fast-forward to 2015, and I still almost always carry two phones with me. Right now my main phone is an iPhone 6, but there’s also typically an Android handset in my pocket waiting patiently to fill in the blanks.
The problem, however, is that I’m running out of blanks to fill.

Cable companies love to call cord cutters an overhyped myth, but now these supposedly phantom TV fans are hurting the pay TV industry where it matters most. A new report in Nasdaq.com explains that major media companies have been taking a beating in their most recent earnings reports, which has spawned fears among investors that cord cutting is an irreversible trend that will permanently dent content providers’ ability to post ever-increasing profits.

If you listen to Apple’s statements about protecting iMessage and FaceTime communications, you’d think Apple has the best encryption game in town. Not only that, but Apple isn’t playing ball with the government, as it’s looking to protect your data more than it wants to cooperate with intelligence agencies.
But a new report looking into the iPhone’s security measures that are supposed to protect your data suggests that everything we’ve been told about iMessage encryption may have been false in at least one aspect: Your data might only be safe if you’re not a suspect.

Speaking with USA Today this week, Apple announced that over 11 million members have signed up for the three-month trial of Apple Music since the service launched in late June. Of those members, over 2 million opted for the family plan, which puts them on the hook for a $14.99 monthly subscription fee.

It’s always great (but sadly rare) to see a corporation that has a sense of humor about itself. Arby’s, the fast food chain that was a frequent target of The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, paid tribute to the departing host this week by releasing a montage of all the times Stewart bashed their food on air. Former Sprint CEO Dan Hesse didn’t exactly turn Sprint into a dynamo under his watch, but you can’t really blame him for that. After all, his tenure as CEO was hindered from the very start by the poor choices that Sprint had made prior to his arrival, most notably the decision to acquire Nextel and the decision to go with WiMAX over LTE as the carrier’s 4G technology. In a letter to shareholders published yesterday evening, Tesla confirmed that the hotly anticipated Model X will, in fact, launch in September. While there were already rumors pointing to a September launch floating around the web, it’s reassuring to hear the news directly from Tesla given the company’s history of perpetually pushing back launch dates.
