A decade ago, the smartphone market looked nothing like it does today. Nothing at all. Major players included Nokia, BlackBerry and Palm, and none of those companies even make smartphones anymore. OK, BlackBerry still makes a phone or two, but they’re hardly of consequence.
Moving beyond the companies that dominated the market, smartphones themselves were much different than they are in 2015. They came in all shapes and sizes, and each new year brought new phones with new features and new designs. They launched when they were ready, not on any set schedule, and new models were released all throughout the year.

Another day, another Android vulnerability. Just days after researchers disclosed an MMS-based Android vulnerability that potentially puts 950 million Android devices at risk, a different group of researchers have come forward with yet another Android-based security exploit.
The latest Android vulnerability affects more than half of all Android devices in circulation today and has the potential to render handsets completely inert, which is to say infected phones cannot make calls or receive any other type of notification. What’s more, the screen itself may become lifeless, effectively turning Android phones into expensive screen savers.

This is what you’ve been waiting for, Top Gear fans: Amazon announced on Thursday that it’s signed former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson and his former cohosts Richard Hammond and James May to star in a new car show that doesn’t yet have an official title. The show is set to go into production “shortly” and will air as an Amazon Prime exclusive beginning in 2016.

Samsung redesigned its flagship smartphone from the ground up for the first half of 2015. The Galaxy S6 is the fastest and most powerful handset the world has ever seen, and its stunning 2K display has been called the best on the planet. Samsung then took things a step further by using premium aluminum and glass construction to make the S6 the most sleek and solid smartphone the company had ever produced.
But it wasn’t enough.
Samsung reported its audited second-quarter results on Thursday morning, and the company’s operating profit from its mobile division plummeted 38%. Put plainly, the Galaxy S6 simply couldn’t get the job done when pitted against the iPhone 6.

Samsung has already confirmed it’s hosting a special media event on August 13th, just like recent reports claimed. At the press conference, it’ll likely unveil its next-gen Galaxy phones, including the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge Plus. Both devices have been featured in numerous leaks, and now designers have created some stunning Galaxy Note 5 renders based on the rumors.

Google is widely expected to release two new Nexus handsets this year, including a new LG Nexus 5 and a Huawei Nexus phablet. Both devices have appeared in a variety of reports so far and a newly leaked image shows what looks like the smaller Nexus’s rear housing.

Over the past few years, there has been no shortage of high-profile credit card breaches at some of the largest retailers in the country. From Target to Home Depot, it seems that we can’t go a few months without hearing a story regarding some new worrisome data breach. With respect to Home Depot in particular, it’s estimated that nearly 60 million credit cards were compromised over a 5-month period.
Compounding the problem is that retailers aren’t the only target that hackers have their eyes on. In recent months, hackers have managed to obtain confidential information from targets as varied as the U.S. Government, health insurance providers, and even popular apps like Twitter and Snapchat. Indeed, it can get a bit tiring trying to keep up with what sites have been exposed to security breaches and when.
