  • In response to the coronavirus, and with millions of people around the world now stuck at home, Tinder will make its Passport feature free to all users starting next week.
  • The Passport feature enables users to swipe through user profiles of people located in other geographic regions.
  • The feature will remain free until April 30.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

With large segments of the world population in lockdown mode, and with no indication that quarantine guidelines will subside anytime soon, there’s a strong chance people across the world will be stuck at home for the next few weeks. The situation is unprecedented and will, for many many people, be a lonely and isolating experience.

To help alleviate the impact of self-quarantine and foster connections across the globe, Tinder next week will make its Passport feature available for free to all users. The Passport feature, in effect, allows users to swipe in geographic locations outside of their own. So, for example, if a Tinder user in Los Angeles wants to check out any potential matches in London, they’ll be able to do so at no charge. Note that the Passport feature is bundled with the Tinder Plus premium tier which typically costs $9.99 a month.

What if the PS5 is much cheaper than we expect?

%name What if the PS5 is much cheaper than we expect? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Xbox Series X has an edge over the PS5 when it comes to specs, but Sony’s console could have a formidable weapon.
  • The PlayStation 5’s price, often rumored to be set at around $500, might end up being more affordable than that.
  • A former Xbox exec says that in light of Sony’s PlayStation hardware announcement, the PS5 would be a “great deal” at $399.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Both Microsoft and Sony have announced the full hardware details for the upcoming Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles. Sony actually hosted a PS5 event on YouTube that was aimed at developers, and therefore incredibly dull for most people in the audience. Microsoft continued its series of surprises by showing off the Xbox Series X’s internals complete with concrete specs details. Microsoft has easily won this week’s duel with Sony, as the new Xbox is faster than the PS5 when it comes to CPU and GPU performance, and it also has a slightly bigger SSD. The new Xbox also wins when it comes to backward compatibility, and is the only console of the two to feature a neat storage upgrade solution. Sony’s console, meanwhile, will deliver a faster SSD experience than the Xbox and most computers, but it’s not without compromise. With all that in mind, is it possible for the PS5 to beat the Xbox where it matters most — the price?

The vast majority of coronavirus cases are mild and brief, data shows

%name The vast majority of coronavirus cases are mild and brief, data shows by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Reports out of China reveal that a coronavirus infection rarely results in severe symptoms, with the vast majority of patients only experiencing mild symptoms that quickly go away.
  • Over 80% of confirmed COVID-19 patients were classified as mild, and over 70,000 of the roughly 80,000 coronavirus cases in the country have already been deemed cured and have been discharged.
  • Researchers continue to battle the pandemic in China and abroad, but social distancing and lockdowns are still the most effective way to slow the spread.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Data out of China, the hardest-hit of any country currently dealing with the novel coronavirus pandemic, offers some good news for the first time in, well, a long time. As CNN reports, the most recent data from China suggests that the vast majority of people who come down with COVID-19 suffer only mild symptoms — and sometimes no symptoms at all — and then recover quickly.

The disease can be devastating for the elderly and those with serious chronic conditions, and the report is by no means a reason to abandon social distancing practices elsewhere in the world, but it’s encouraging news nonetheless.

Can you get coronavirus twice? Promising research says no

%name Can you get coronavirus twice? Promising research says no by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Researchers in China may have proven that COVID-19 reinfection isn’t possible in subjects who have recovered from the illness.
  • The scientists analyzed monkeys infected with the same strain of coronavirus that’s wreaking havoc around the world and then attempted to reinfect them after recovery.
  • The conclusion is that immunity against the SARS-CoV-2 virus can be acquired and once that happens, reinfection isn’t possible. However, the study needs further verification, and it fails to reveal how long immunity will last.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

China gave the world nearly two months to prepare for the most serious threat of our generation, a novel coronavirus that can be deadly in the elderly and immunocompromised people. And yet the Western world including Europe and North America still failed to adequately prepare. Two months isn’t enough time to create a miracle cure or a vaccine, but it’s time that could have been used to bolster defenses — the purchase and manufacturing of essential medical supplies including disinfectants, protective gear, COVID-19 test kits, and ventilators. All hope isn’t lost, and time remains the most crucial resource we have to combat the novel coronavirus. By adhering to strict social distancing measures and practicing better-than-usual hygiene, every one of us buys the medical system the time it needs to treat patients without stressing about the imminent collapse of local hospitals. And that time buys us another thing that we desperately need: more research. The better we understand the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the better we’ll fight it and hopefully eradicate it.

Researchers have so far determined how the immune system responds to the virus, explaining why some people might recover by themselves. Others proved that the coronavirus is extraordinarily resilient and can survive on various surfaces for up to three days. Scientists also found that patients with mild symptoms are still highly contagious from the first cough or sneeze. Crucially, doctors were able to prove that COVID-19 isn’t a man-made disease, which is one of the popular conspiracy theories going around. Many others are studying novel therapies that have started showing promise, as well as vaccines. And there’s a new study that indicates that once infected, we might not be able to reacquire the virus because we develop immunity. However, the study needs a lot more time to be confirmed.

  • The spread of the deadly coronavirus is profoundly reshaping daily life across America (and much of the rest of the world), as states and cities increasingly order citizens to stay home.
  • The orders in those localities are meant to prevent health care systems from being swamped with coronavirus cases. In the meantime, the quarantines are radically changing many people’s jobs, which are now done from home in many cases.

It’s affecting everything from our health to our daily routines, how we live, work, and play, with the effects of this once-in-a-generation catastrophe being compared to a combination of the Sept. 11 terror attacks as well as the Great Recession. Some of these coronavirus conspiracy theories and fake remedies are insane

%name Some of these coronavirus conspiracy theories and fake remedies are insane by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A crisis like the COVID-19 coronavirus provides a fertile breeding ground for fake cures and misleading preventative measures to spread quickly.
  • Some people are claiming the coronavirus was engineered in a lab even though reputable scientists have already proven this to be false.
  • Make sure to do a quick Google search before buying into and spreading disinformation that could actually put people at greater risk of catching the virus.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A few days ago, I hopped onto Twitter and saw a disturbing tweet putting forth the idea that the coronavirus could very well be a manmade bioweapon that was created to bring the United States to its knees. And lest you think that outlandish ideas like this only come from unemployed 40-year-old crackpots who still live at home, the tweet in question came from a well-respected and highly-educated doctor.

Unfortunately, a crisis like the novel coronavirus tends to be a fertile breeding ground for conspiracy theorists who are all too eager to come up with a seemingly endless number of hot takes, each one more outlandish than the one that came before it.

  • Chase’s Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, which is a card product for business owners, just launched a 100,000-point welcome bonus.
  • In these uncertain times, with the coronavirus still spreading and so many small businesses seeing their revenue evaporate as customers hunker down at home, a solid card like this is worth considering and may just end up serving as a lifeline.

Please note: the offers mentioned below are subject to change at any time and some may no longer be available.

One of the best business cards on the market today just launched a stellar welcome bonus for new cardmembers.

For small business owners that may be struggling at the moment or looking for all the help they can get in terms of saving money, the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card from Chase is a card you might want to put on your radar right now. One of the key reasons is that you’ll earn 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points when you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.

Now, granted — travel is the last thing on people’s minds right now, so the card’s lineup of travel-related benefits isn’t going to appeal to most people at the moment. Indeed, airlines have cut out major parts of their route network as a result of the spread of the coronavirus, and warnings have been issued to everyone domestically and internationally about traveling. However, these circumstances won’t last forever, and there’s still plenty worth recommending about this card, even outside of anything related to travel.
