PlayStation 5 is the ‘most exciting hardware in 20 years’

Earlier this week, Microsoft scored another point in its console marketing war with Sony. After unveiling the Xbox Series X name and design in mid-December, and announcing most of the gaming rig’s specs in mid-February, Microsoft on Monday came out swinging with a flurry of announcements. Almost everything about the Series X was revealed, including details that were kept secret a month ago. We got the entire specs sheet and new Xbox demos that highlight some of the console’s key features. We learned the console will have an excellent feature to help with storage needs beyond the built-in 1TB super-fast SSD, and Microsoft revealed the new Wireless Controller in full.

We’ve been saying for weeks that Sony has to match Microsoft’s console announcements, and Sony, on Tuesday, finally announced the date for the full PS5 event. It’s on March 18th that PS5 to lead system architect Mark Cerny “will provide a deep dive into PS5’s system architecture, and how it will shape the future of games.”

25,000-year-old monument built with mammoth bones stuns scientists

  • Massive mammoth bone structure discovered in Russia has researchers searching for its purpose.
  • The circular structure dates back 25,000 years, and scientists found evidence of wood being burned inside.
  • Whether built as shelter or as some sort of monument with a higher meaning, the bones of dozens of mammoths were used in its construction.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Archaeologists have unearthed a bizarre monument built by ancient humans in Russia. It’s a large circular structure built using the bones of a creature that no living human has ever seen: a mammoth. The best part? Nobody has any idea what it was used for why it exists in the first place.

Other mammoth bone monuments have been found in Russia in the past, though this particular location has the others beat in terms of size. At a whopping 41 feet across, it’s quite large, but figuring out who made it and why are proving difficult.

We could all use some joy right now, so Jimmy Fallon is doing his show from home on YouTube

%name We could all use some joy right now, so Jimmy Fallon is doing his show from home on YouTube by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Much of America is stuck at home right now, hunkering down in the wake of the continued spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus that’s wreaking havoc across the globe.
  • All of the late-night TV shows have halted their productions in favor of promoting social distancing, which experts have said is one of and maybe the only surefire way to get the spread of the virus under control.
  • Jimmy Fallon decided to start a YouTube version of his show, posting daily short episodes to YouTube that are shot by his wife and filmed at his home in New York. The first episode was posted on Tuesday.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The news has been pretty bleak these last few days, as the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to spur a once-in-a-generation crisis across the US and much of the rest of the world. So many of our public spaces are closing or drastically reducing their operations, while everyone hunkers down at home to ride out the spread of the deadly virus. If you pay too close attention to the news and to your Twitter feed, it can get easy to feel overwhelmed and a sense of helpless anxiety, which is why entertainers are starting to do what they can to spread a little good cheer at the moment. John Legend, for example, went live on Instagram Tuesday to perform an in-home concert.

All of the late-night TV hosts, meanwhile, have shuttered production of their respective shows as social distancing has become the order of the day, which is why Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday decided to debut a “home edition” of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He put a homespun, 10-minute version of the show together, complete with a “monologue” that basically consisted of dad-jokes, crude drawings from his kids, and a musical number in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

  • UEFA just announced that the Euro 2020 competition has been postponed to next summer over coronavirus concerns — Euro 2021 will take place during June 11-July 11, 2021.
  • The popular soccer competition is the latest sporting event to be postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • UEFA assured ticker buyers that full refunds will be offered if they can’t attend the tournament next year.

The most important soccer competitions in Europe came to a halt over the past few weeks due to coronavirus fears, with many speculating this year’s Euro 2020 event would be delayed or even canceled. UEFA, the governing body over all soccer events, including the European Football Championship that takes over the continent and the world every four years, confirmed those fears on Tuesday.

Euro 2020 hasn’t been canceled, but it’s now postponed to 2021. It’s an unprecedented move for the sport and this particular competition and goes to show how severe the COVID-19 threat really is.

NASA needs your help to build a Moon digging robot

%name NASA needs your help to build a Moon digging robot by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • NASA’s RASSOR robot is headed to the Moon, and it’s designed to dig into the surface.
  • The robot uses a drum to scoop up lunar surface material and then transport it to new locations, but NASA hasn’t decided on a design for the drum.
  • The space agency is accepting 3D models as submissions for a more efficient digging tool.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A new era of lunar exploration and science is about to begin, but in order for NASA to make the most of it, it has to have all the right technology ready to roll. One of the gadgets NASA wants to send to the Moon is a digging robot. The agency has already made plenty of progress on this front, building the RASSOR (Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot) bot and testing various versions of its hardware.

But NASA can’t do it alone, and it has issued a call for help in designing one very important component of the RASSOR robot: its collection drum.

After calling coronavirus panic ‘dumb,’ Elon Musk now says it’s harmful in leaked memo

%name After calling coronavirus panic ‘dumb,’ Elon Musk now says it’s harmful in leaked memo by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk thinks the coronavirus panic is more harmful than the virus itself.
  • In a newly leaked memo to employees, Musk said that employees can opt to stay home if they’re slightly ill or uncomfortable at the prospect of contracting the virus.
  • Tesla’s Fremont factory will remain open as it has been deemed an “essential business.”
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

As the coronavirus continues to spread worldwide, a number of high-profile companies, from Apple to Nike, recently decided to close the majority of their stores to help limit the virus from spreading even further. What’s more, a number of major U.S. cities have enacted bans which essentially prevent bars, restaurants, and a number of other public establishments, from operating in any capacity. Without question, the coronavirus has impacted and will continue to impact the way most people go about their day-to-day lives. And underscoring the severity of the virus, it’s worth noting that the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the coronavirus a pandemic six days ago.

As the entire world continues to worry about the coronavirus, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, interestingly enough, remains convinced that the worldwide response to the coronavirus is a bit over the top.

Popcorn Time back from the dead again, just in time for coronavirus

%name Popcorn Time back from the dead again, just in time for coronavirus by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Popcorn Time, one of the most popular piracy apps of the last decade, is back from the dead once again.
  • Popcorn Time originally launched in 2014, offering pirates a safe way to illegally stream TV shows and movies without having to download any files individually.
  • If you decide to try Popcorn Time, know that your ISP might issue you a warning or even suspend your account, as all of the content is hosted illegally.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We’ve been writing about piracy in the entertainment industry for years, but few apps have caught our attention the way Popcorn Time did more than half a decade ago. In 2014, long before the likes of Disney, Apple, HBO, and NBC were launching their own dedicated streaming platforms, the concept of a sleek, feature-rich “Netflix for piracy” was one that took the internet by storm, and six years later, Popcorn Time is trying to make a comeback.

As spotted by Motherboard on Tuesday, a new version of Popcorn Time was released on PopcornTime.app within the last few days. As with previous versions of the piracy app, Popcorn Time version 4.0 is free to download, easy to use, and features a massive library of TV shows and movies, including some that are still in theaters.

White House may use location data from Google to track the coronavirus

%name White House may use location data from Google to track the coronavirus by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • As the coronavirus continues to spread, countries are starting to employ high-tech strategies to stop the virus from growing.
  • The U.S. government is currently exploring the idea of using smartphone location data from Facebook and Google to better keep an eye on how and where the coronavirus spreads.
  • Nothing is set in stone just yet, but it’s safe to say that any type of strategy involving user location data would set off alarm bells for privacy advocates.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

With no pun intended, governments around the world are coming up with novel approaches to stopping the coronavirus from spreading. Earlier this week, for example, word emerged that Israel approved a new emergency regulation that would allow the government to monitor and track cellphone location data of known coronavirus patients. The underlying goal of this approach is to warn individuals who happen to cross paths with a coronavirus carrier.

“The existence of the data trove and the legislative framework under which it is amassed and used have not previously been reported,” said The New York Times which broke the news yesterday. “The plan to apply it to fighting the virus, alluded to only vaguely by Mr. Netanyahu, has not yet been debated by lawmakers or revealed to the public.”

Toilet paper manufacturers think we’re all crazy, and we probably are

%name Toilet paper manufacturers think we’re all crazy, and we probably are by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Toilet paper quickly became a hot item for preppers in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Manufacturers are at a loss to explain the hoarding mentality and are now urging consumers to stop stockpiling toilet paper.
  • Orders for toilet paper have skyrocketed, and manufacturers are struggling to meet the demand.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The coronavirus pandemic has taught us a lot about ourselves already, and not all of it is good. Soon after it became clear that we had a real problem on our hands, hoarding of basic consumer products sparked shortages of things that we shouldn’t be dealing with shortages of. One of those things is toilet paper.

Why are people stocking up on toilet paper? That’s a question that even toilet paper manufacturers can’t answer. In fact, it sounds like the folks making the toilet paper are completely baffled by the purchasing decisions being made in supermarkets and department stores around the world.
