All 50 states in the US have now reopened to some degree, after more than two months of gradually tightening lockdowns and restrictions as the coronavirus’ US toll has worsened.
There’s fear among public health experts that Americans’ behavior over the Memorial Day weekend could cause a surge in new COVID-19 cases.
Here are the places and situations to avoid to keep yourself safe from the coronavirus.

As the coronavirus’ US toll has worsened over the last couple of months, we’ve slowly begun to learn more about this virus that has infected more than 1.6 million people in the US and killed almost 98,000 people as of Monday morning. That’s according to the latest grim statistics from Johns Hopkins University, which also don’t speak to the more than 36 million people who’ve been thrown out of work because of the economic devastation caused by the virus.

Since the onset of the pandemic in the US, we’ve also gradually learned what actions we can take to minimize its spread — as well as our chances of catching the COVID-19 virus. That includes things like regularly washing our hands, wearing a face mask when we’re in public, and practicing social distancing.

Former FDA chief Scott Gottlieb says the coronavirus pandemic is not contained, and that reopening will inevitably lead to more hospitalizations and suffering.
Some US states are beginning to loosen their restrictions and are already seeing an increase in the number of new cases flooding hospitals.
Social distancing, mask-wearing, and other preventative measures will only protect us up to a point if we choose to abandon stay-at-home orders and lockdown measures.

While some areas of the United States are ever so slowly returning to a sense of “normal” in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, it’s already clear that we’re jumping the gun. Some states are still seeing increasing numbers of coronavirus cases on a week-over-week basis, and deaths continue to mount. Now, Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, says what we’ve all been thinking: COVID-19 isn’t done with us yet.

Gottlieb made his remarks during an interview on Face the Nation, stating that the virus “isn’t contained yet.” He added, “That doesn’t mean we can’t go out and start doing things, get back to some semblance of a normal life, but we need to do things differently. We need to define a new normal.”

The coronavirus recovery time might not coincide with the period a COVID-19 patient is still contagious, a new study indicates.
Researchers from Singapore say a patient isn’t infectious 11 days after the onset of symptoms, citing similar research from other countries.
The findings could change COVID-19 case management policies for patients who keep testing positive for several weeks after the onset of symptoms, and for patients who are treating themselves at home.

Containing the novel coronavirus is essential for reopening economies, and it’s only possible with good testing and contact tracing policies that can reduce the rate of infection. Knowing how long a person is infectious is also a key detail for authorities, as they can better manage their resources and caseload. New data from Singapore indicates that a COVID-19 patient is no longer contagious after 11 days, even if his or her PCR tests still return positive results.

Congress has already taken a series of extraordinary steps to provide unprecedented relief like direct payments to Americans as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but momentum for a new stimulus bill seems to be stalled at the moment.
Billionaire Mark Cuban, meanwhile, has tweeted out a stimulus idea of his own that we think might be one of the most creative yet.
It calls for a massive federal jobs program, as well as new direct payments to Americans that include a “spend it or lose it” requirement.

At this stage of the coronavirus pandemic, more than two months on from the outbreak first exploding in the US, there are a few things we can say about the crisis with certainty.

For one, this has been a fast-moving catastrophe with a wide scale of destruction, in terms of both public health and economic pain, like nothing the US has seen in more than a generation. Apple released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to the public last week, but users have already discovered two bugs that seem to have something to do with app certificates.
First, iOS 13.5 users were running into an error that made some apps inaccessible. The only way to get the app back up and running was to delete it or offload it and reinstall it.
Second, iOS 13.5 users were being asked to install dozens of app updates that they had already installed, and it seems likely that these two issues are related.

Last Wednesday, Apple released the final versions of iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to the public. The updates contained the Exposure Notification API that developers can use to create contact tracing apps for the novel coronavirus as well as a simplified unlock process for Face ID for users wearing face masks.

iOS 13.5 was the first major public software release for the iPhone since March, but it wouldn’t be a software launch without a hiccup or two. MacRumors reported last Friday that some iOS users were experiencing a bug which made it impossible to open certain apps. The following error message began appearing on the screen for affected users: “This app is no longer shared with you.” Now, a potentially related bug is rearing its ugly head.
