The next generation of video game consoles is just months away, but there are still a few major blockbusters planned for this generation in the interim. Perhaps the most notable of all of them is The Last of Us Part II, the sequel to one of 2013’s most critically-acclaimed releases, but developer Naughty Dog was thrown for a loop last week when a flood of spoilers popped up online as part of a massive leak of mysterious origin.

Videos were uploaded to YouTube last week that appeared to show off gameplay and cutscenes from The Last of Us Part II, spoiling key moments from the story. The footage also featured debug information at the bottom of the screen, leading some to speculate that a disgruntled Naughty Dog employee might have been behind the leak. But on Friday, Sony confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the people behind the video leak were “not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment or Naughty Dog,” and now evidence suggests that hackers were to blame.

• State and local economies around the US are gradually starting to open up again since the onset of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic forced them to take extraordinary measures to limit people from being out in public to control the spread of the virus.

• Disney’s streaming service has just added what it promises is the largest release yet of Star Wars content onto Disney+ since its launch back in November.

Disney’s now six-month-old streaming service Disney+ has added a galaxy’s worth of new Star Wars-related content to the platform, just in time for the annual Star Wars celebration that happens each year on May the 4th.

On Monday, the streamer announced it’s honoring the global fan base of the entertainment franchise created by George Lucas with what it declared is the largest release of Star Wars content on the service since the Disney+ launch back in November. “With today’s addition of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the complete Skywalker saga,” the streamer announced, as well as “the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, series premiere of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, concept art takeovers, and new avatar choices, there’s something for every Star Wars fan on Disney+.”

With the coronavirus bringing much of the country to a standstill, essential businesses that have been allowed to remain open have been forced to tweak the way they do business. Restaurants, for example, now require patrons picking up food to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Some grocery stores, meanwhile, have started limiting the number of customers that can be inside at a given time.

Additionally, many states recently started implementing new guidelines with respect to wearing face masks out in public. In Illinois, for example, grocery stores — or any type of establishment that draws in large numbers of people — will not even let customers inside if they’re not wearing a face covering. It’s essentially something of a trade-off as some states begin to relax stay-at-home directives.

• Carnival Cruise Line announced on Monday that it plans to resume sailing this summer, phasing in some cruises as early as August in the United States.

The United States was very slow to react to the coronavirus outbreak, and as a result, cities and states from coast to coast have been shut down for weeks, with no end in sight for some of them. Even when they do begin to reopen, as Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and others have decided to do, they will have to be exceeding careful to ensure that the infection rate doesn’t explode, prompting another shut down before their health care systems collapse.

While some states are jumping into the deep end, others, like New York, are taking a much more gradual approach, opening only the most essential of businesses in areas that have had relatively low rates of infection. That way, even if the infection rate begins to rise again, they can flip the switch and shut everything back down. This is an incredibly precarious situation, but despite all of this, Carnival Cruise Line is already planning its reopening.

• Clinical studies involving remdesivir as a treatment for the coronavirus has yielded encouraging results.
• Remdesivir was developed by Gilead as a drug to treat Ebola patients, but the FDA approved it as a coronavirus treatment late last week.
• Gilead CEO Daniel O’Day said that remdesivir will be used on coronavirus patients starting next week. O’Day also said that Gilead will be giving away its entire supply of Remdesivir.

A few weeks ago, a research study in the New England Journal of Medicine revealed that a good percentage of coronavirus patients exhibited signs of improvement when treated with Remdesivir, a drug that was previously developed by Gilead to help treat Ebola patients.

Now comes word from Gilead CEO Daniel O’Day that remdesivir will be rolled out on a larger scale to coronavirus patients in areas that have been hit particularly hard by the virus.

• Grocery stores have been one of the few public places to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic.
• As lockdowns and shelter-in-place orders start to end around the US, and the pandemic enters a new phase here, it’s safe to say that shoppers are going to be visiting grocery stores and supermarkets in even greater numbers soon.
• Even with social distancing guidelines and other coronavirus-related safety measures, there’s one place above all others inside the store to be aware of as the most dangerous for workers and guests.

Whenever I’ve made a trip to the grocery store since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, I’ve donned a mask, been mindful about touching as little as possible, and tried to socially distance myself from the other shoppers according to the guidelines from health officials. Turns out, though, the most dangerous spot in grocery stores and supermarkets might be the place some of you least expect it — the cash register.

Here’s why. Take a retailer like Walmart, which has implemented coronavirus-related safety measures in its stores that include providing masks for workers and setting up plexiglass barriers to protect cashiers. But stop and think about the cashiers for a moment – they stand, for the entirety of their shift, at an arm’s length or so away from customers, which is much closer than the six-foot distance recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Also, every item they scan and bag has been grabbed and touched by customers and possibly other store employees, some of whom might have the virus.

• Disney announced on Monday that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi will direct a Star Wars movie and co-write the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
• In addition to Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi previously directed the season finale of The Mandalorian for Disney, and is currently working on Thor: Love and Thunder.

Following the mixed reaction to the new generation of Star Wars stories — from a theatrical sequel trilogy to series of spinoffs to live-action shows on the Disney+ streaming service — Disney decided to take a step back and reevaluate its plans for the franchise. Flooding theaters with Star Wars wasn’t the best strategy after all.

Of course, the problem wasn’t just that there was too much Star Wars, but rather that there wasn’t a coherent vision to what Disney was trying to accomplish. Disney also owns Marvel Studios, and people will return to the theater over and over to see movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because they know what to expect. On the other hand, Disney doesn’t appear to know what to do with the $4 billion property that is Star Wars, but now that the Skywalker saga has finally concluded, it appears that the company is going in a new direction.

The elderly and people with preexisting conditions are at risk of developing a severe COVID-19 case, which can often come with significant respiratory issues that can require oxygen therapy and ventilation. And now, doctors have encountered a new type of severe COVID-19 complication they call “happy hypoxia.” That’s because the patients who show this condition are in incredible respiratory distress, yet they show no real signs that their oxygen levels are dangerously low.
