This is the Galaxy Note 10 Pro

%name This is the Galaxy Note 10 Pro by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung is doing things differently this year, when it comes to the Galaxy Note 10. A series of reports said the company will launch two different Note 10 sizes this year, a first for the series, but a move that feels very familiar given that Samsung did the same thing with the Galaxy S10 phones. The new Note 10 and Note 10 Pro, however, won’t be replicas of the previous flagships, and we have renders based on leaked CAD designs to prove that. The same source that leaked the Galaxy Note 10 design earlier this week is back with similar renders for the Note 10 Pro.

Huawei receives another blow: No Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp apps on Android devices

%name Huawei receives another blow: No Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp apps on Android devices by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Huawei has had a bad few weeks, as US companies responded to the Trump ban one after another. Whether it’s hardware such as chips from Intel or ARM, or whether it’s software like Google’s Android or Microsoft’s Windows, Huawei can’t import it from American technology companies until the ban is resolved. And Facebook is the latest big name in tech that responded to the prohibition by suspending app preinstalls on Huawei phones that are yet to leave factories. The move means nothing for Huawei’s Chinese market, but not being able to preload apps like Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, all Facebook properties on Huawei devices sold in other international markets can be a massive problem for the company.

There’s a good chance you’re reading these words right now on a smartphone. And just as good of a chance, in fact, that you’ve been essentially either tethered to your phone all day or it’s at least been within arm’s reach when you’re not using it. Permanent connectivity is the price of modern convenience these days, and most of us live the majority of our personal and professional lives by being largely reliant on these increasingly pricey handsets.

Apple just added crypto support to iPhone, and we nearly missed it

%name Apple just added crypto support to iPhone, and we nearly missed it by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple’s press event on Monday was filled with announcements, most of them on the software side of things, as the iPhone maker showed us some of the main features of its upcoming operating systems updates. Apple also launched a brand new Mac Pro generation and introduced new developers tools for apps, including support for easily turning iPad apps into Mac apps.

But Apple also quietly unveiled a CryptoKit framework that will allow developers to build cryptographic operations right into their apps. It’s too early to say whether Apple is working on its own crypto projects, like an Apple digital coin that would work across its devices and services, but it sure looks like a device like the iPhone could soon act as wallets for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Nintendo probably isn’t making the N64 Classic Edition, so someone else did

%name Nintendo probably isn’t making the N64 Classic Edition, so someone else did by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Nintendo followed up its exceedingly popular NES Classic Edition with the SNES Classic Edition, we assumed an N64 Classic Edition would be the logical next step. Unfortunately, the company confirmed that there won’t be any more retro consoles in the near future as it focuses on the Switch and the library of NES games for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. But the good news is that Nintendo isn’t the only company building retro machines.

In a LinkedIn post this week, Hyperkin project manager Andrew Steel revealed that the company’s next release will be the Retron Ult Premium Retro Gaming Console for N64. Steel wasn’t able to share any details, but GameSpot reports that the N64 clone will play original N64 cartridges running at 720p. Inside the box, along with the console, will be an “Admiral” controller, a three-foot HDMI cable, and a six-foot USB-C cable.

Astronomers discover massive ring of gas circling our black hole

%name Astronomers discover massive ring of gas circling our black hole by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The center of the Milky Way galaxy is somewhere you wouldn’t want to be. We have it pretty easy here on Earth, orbiting our star and staying out of everyone’s way, but deep within the heart of our galaxy, a monster lurks. It’s a supermassive black hole known as Sagittarius A* (that’s pronounced “A star”, for the record) and while we can’t exactly see it, we know it’s there thanks to decades of scientific observations of our own galaxy as well as many others.

The intense gravitational pull of the black hole draws in just about everything, but nearby debris it hasn’t yet swallowed up orbits in a pattern called an accretion disk. Now, new research reveals that along with dust and super-heated gases, there’s also a ring of comparatively cooler gases hanging out in the neighborhood.

The FCC is finally taking robocalls seriously

%name The FCC is finally taking robocalls seriously by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Federal Communications Commission chairman Ajit Pai quoted a late Democratic Senator from South Carolina, Fritz Hollings, in an op-ed he penned for USA Today Thursday ahead of a vote by the commission to give carriers new permission to block robocalls by default. The FCC’s vote Thursday was unanimous, a rare thing in the nation’s capital these days, so score one for the fight against what Pai reminded everyone today, in Hollings’ words, is the “scourge of civilization.”

German circus replaced animals with holograms, and it’s awesome

%name German circus replaced animals with holograms, and it’s awesome by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Ah, the circus. It’s a time-honored tradition, but the practice of training animals to do silly things for the amusement of youngsters is definitely old-fashioned, and there are many reasons why it’s not a popular as it once was. The treatment of circus animals is one of the biggest criticisms of modern circus companies, and many people don’t feel that animals should be forced to perform for our entertainment.

Germany’s Circus Roncalli has heard those criticisms and taken them to heart. You can still go to a Roncalli performance and see animals like elephants and horses, only now the animals won’t actually be real, they’ll be high-definition holograms.

Apple reportedly interested in acquiring a self-driving car startup

%name Apple reportedly interested in acquiring a self driving car startup by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple is currently in the process of acquiring a self-driving car startup called Drive.ai, according to a new report from The Information. The report claims that the acquisition is an “acquir-hire,” which is to say that Apple is more so interested in the company’s employees than the company’s existing technology.

The report further adds that the deal, once finalized, “could result in dozens of Drive.ai engineers ending up at Apple” and that the company’s engineering talent would “boost Apple’s own development of a self-driving vehicle system.”
