The worldwide 5G rollout has officially begun, but for the time being, so few devices and cities actually support the technology that it still feels like it’s years away from becoming mainstream. We still don’t know when a majority of us will be able to take advantage of the lightning-fast speeds of 5G, but an announcement from Gogo seems to suggest that the wireless technology will be much more pervasive two years from now.

On Wednesday, Gogo revealed that it plans to build a 5G network for aviation. The network will be designed for use on business flights, commercial jets, and smaller mainline jets operating within the US and Canada. Gogo wants to have the network up and running for business and commercial flights by 2021.

Pixar fans just got a hint on Thursday morning that the next installment in the beloved Toy Story franchise will not only crush it at the box office as expected but that it will outpace last year’s massively successful Incredibles 2.

According to the movie ticket site Fandango, Toy Story 4 now holds the record for best first-day presales for an animated feature on Fandango ahead of the movie’s June 21 release.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is late to its own party, and it’s not just a little bit late. NASA originally planned to have the spacecraft ready to roll as early as 2007, but a laundry list of setbacks (and stupid human errors on the part of manufacturer Northrop Grumman) have pushed the project back by over a decade and roughly 20 times its original cost.

With that much cash dumped into a project, you can bet that NASA is eager to see some hints of serious progress, especially with its tentative 2021 launch window rapidly approaching. The good news is that half of the telescope just completed a round of testing at its manufacturing facility, besting a vacuum chamber designed to put it through conditions it would experience while in space.

iOS 13 is the next major iPhone and iPad operating system update, and Apple will unveil its most important features on Monday, during its WWDC 2019 keynote. Some of these features already leaked, and we know we’re getting a couple of highly anticipated features including Dark Mode and a new UI for volume control, although there are still plenty of iOS 13 tricks that have yet to be uncovered.

While we’ve been waiting for the press conference, we’ve been treated to more and more exciting iOS 13 concepts from designers who are trying to guess what Apple is working on next, and to fix the annoying things about the iPhone’s underlying software. NASA’s Curiosity rover is providing critical insights into what Mars may have been like long ago, and one of its latest discoveries helps support the idea that the Red Planet was one very blue. Scientists believe that Mars was once a fairly wet place and, just like here on Earth, we can find evidence of that watery past in the now-dry surface.

Curiosity is currently exploring an area of Mars nicknamed the “clay-bearing unit,” and, in a new blog post by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, researchers reveal just how accurate that label is. The rover, which is equipped with a drill that allows it to sample rocks and analyze the material hiding within, just collected its two most clay-rich samples to date, suggesting that the area may have been an ancient lake long ago.
