During Google’s Marketing Live conference for advertisers on Tuesday, the search giant announced a first for the company: Ads are coming soon to Google’s iconic homepage.

The ads will be confined to the version of its homepage accessible via the mobile web as well as its smartphone app later this year, which will provide the company a fresh source of advertising revenue and prominent new screen real estate it can sell to brands. The move also, at least for now, preserves the famously minimalist aesthetic of the desktop version of Google’s homepage.

Sorry, ‘Friends’ fans: WarnerMedia has decided to pull its shows from Netflix

%name Sorry, ‘Friends’ fans: WarnerMedia has decided to pull its shows from Netflix by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

At a conference in Boston on Tuesday, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson just confirmed what many Netflix fans have long feared — that the streaming giant may eventually lose some of the most popular third-party shows that it licenses, like Friends, ER, and The Office.

Stephenson’s company is poised to launch a Netflix rival of its own sometime this year, and he confirmed today that the plan is for parent company AT&T to bring back shows it licenses out, like Friends, to offer exclusively on its own streaming platform. “We are going to have to take a lot of the great content we own that’s been licensed elsewhere and bring that back into the fold,” Stephenson said at the conference, as reported by The Dallas News.

Scientists discover why grocery store tomatoes don’t taste like anything

%name Scientists discover why grocery store tomatoes don’t taste like anything by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Have you ever eaten a perfectly ripe tomato and wondered why you even bother? Tomatoes are a staple in sandwiches and salads, and you can throw them into just about any dish and come up with something edible. Tomato flavor, however, has apparently been going downhill for a while now, and scientists think they know why.

In a new study published in Nature Genetics, researchers including those from the Agricultural Research Service and the Boyce Thompson Institute have mapped the genome of the modern cultivated tomato as well as tomatoes that still grow in the wild. The team marked thousands of genes that were previously unknown, comparing the genomes of cultivated tomatoes with their wild relatives, and made more than a few interesting discoveries.

If it wasn’t already clear that Disney is very serious about becoming one of the major players in the video streaming business, then Disney’s newest move should drive that point home.

%name Second to last ‘Game of Thrones’ episode had the highest ratings in the show’s history by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Sunday night’s episode of Game of Thrones was certainly a controversial one, with Daenerys finally making good on the fan theory that she was destined to go full-on dark — which she did by using her last of three dragons to literally roast King’s Landing and its inhabitants.

Nevertheless, Episode 5 — The Bells — has scored a milestone achievement for the series, separate from being now ranked as among the most controversial.
