The massive Apple-Qualcomm legal spat is now over, as the two companies on Tuesday announced they’ve decided to settle the matters between them and drop all litigation that involved licensing and intellectual property matters. The move wasn’t entirely unexpected. Most people probably expected Apple and Qualcomm to settle, but the timing of the deal was somewhat surprising, considering the trial had just started. As soon as the deal was announced, it became clear that Apple will use once again Qualcomm modems in future iPhone versions, including the 5G kind, which are already available on Android phones. That doesn’t mean that Apple will make a 5G iPhone this year, but a new report that surfaced after the settlement news claims that we’ll have a 5G iPhone in stores only in 2020.

Earth may have been struck by an interstellar meteor way back in 2014

It was late 2017 when the astronomy world was buzzing over what appeared to be the first-ever interstellar visitor observed by mankind. It was a long, cigar-shaped object which its discoverers named Oumuamua, and it swooped around our Sun and back out towards interstellar space so rapidly that scientists had to scramble to study it.

Now, after examining records of meteor strikes on Earth from years past, Harvard researchers believe they may have discovered evidence of the first-ever interstellar meteor to strike Earth. If true, the rock arrived at our planet years ahead of Oumuamua.

NASA’s TESS exoplanet hunter found its first Earth-size planet, but you wouldn’t want to visit

NASA’s TESS exoplanet hunting telescope has been on the job for less than a year, but it’s already racking up some impressive discoveries. Following the announcement of a new “Hot Saturn” back in March, NASA just revealed that TESS found its first Earth-sized planet outside of our solar system.

TESS — which stands for Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite — is designed to detect the telltale signs of exoplanets orbiting the stars it observes by spotting the tiny changes in brightness associated with a planet passing in front of them. This latest observation is actually the 10th confirmed planet TESS has discovered, but it’s the first one that is likely close to Earth in overall size. Still, you definitely wouldn’t want to go there.

Julian Assange’s arrest at the end of last week by British officials who finally snatched him at the London embassy in Ecuador where he’d been living for years did not, in turns out, put the matter to rest for Ecuadorian officials.

Patricio Real, the county’s deputy minister for information and communication technologies, told Agence France Presse in an interview that Assange’s controversial arrest prompted a massive wave of cyberattacks against the country. They added up to a whopping 40 million attacks and “principally come from the United States, Brazil, Holland, Germany, Romania, France, Austria and the United Kingdom,” as well as from South America.

Nearby exoplanet may have the potential to support life

%name Nearby exoplanet may have the potential to support life by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Finding planets outside of our solar system is a challenge, and determining the size, composition, and surface conditions of such planets is more difficult still. Figuring out whether life could exist on an exoplanet, based on all the previous information? Well that’s about as difficult a challenge as an astronomer can imagine, but researchers from Cornell are doing exactly that.

In a new study published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, scientists from Cornell’s Carl Sagan Institute reveal that conditions on nearby exoplanet Proxima-b may be near the fringe of what is considered suitable for life to take root.

Microsoft officially announces the disc-less Xbox One S All-Digital Edition

%name Microsoft officially announces the disc less Xbox One S All Digital Edition by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

During the April edition of its Inside Xbox live show, Microsoft uncovered the newest member of the Xbox One family: The frequently-leaked Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. As the name suggests, the All-Digital Edition doesn’t have a disc drive, which means the only way to play games on this console is to download them.

While the new version of the console lacks a disc drive, Microsoft makes up for that by bundling the All-Digital Edition with three of the Xbox One’s most popular titles: Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 3. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will retail for $249.99 ($50 less than the standard Xbox One S), but Microsoft says that the All-Digital Edition will always be $50 less than the standard Xbox One S, even during sales.
