Last week, Israel attempted to do something that only three other countries have accomplished in the history of mankind by landing a spacecraft on the Moon. The privately-funded mission, which is the first of its kind to attempt such a lofty feat, ultimately came up a little bit short.

The Beresheet lander experienced a major engine malfunction during its descent. The spacecraft’s handlers managed to restart the engine and bring it back online, but by that point the lander was already speeding towards the lunar surface where it crashed moments later, but not before snapping one last photo for us all to remember it by.

Lots of people around the world keep birds as pets, and the vast majority of the time they pose no danger to their owners. A parakeet probably isn’t going to pick a fight with you, but larger, more exotic species are a different animal, and a bizarre story out of Florida serves as a shocking reminder of that fact.

As local ABC affiliate WCJB reports, law enforcement in Alachua County received a pair of frantic 911 calls claiming that a pet bird had attacked its elderly owner. When sheriff’s deputies arrived they realized how serious the situation was, as the bird was a cassowary, a large and often aggressive species native to Australia.

In the latest of a seemingly endless string of high-profile hacks, Microsoft confirmed to TechCrunch over the weekend that a “limited” number of people who use Microsoft’s email platforms — including Outlook, MSN, and Hotmail — had their accounts compromised. Microsoft sent an email to the affected users last Friday, alerting them that hackers had potentially been able to access a trove of information, including the subject lines of their emails and the names of the people they’ve emailed, “but not the content of any e-mails or attachments.”

As serious as this sounds, the hack was even worse than Microsoft first let on, as Motherboard reported on Sunday that the hackers were indeed able to access actual emails from “a large number of Outlook, MSN, and Hotmail email accounts.” A source described the attack before Microsoft released its statement, and then provided screenshots to prove it. Microsoft then confirmed to Motherboard that some email content had been accessed.

The first episode of the final Game of Thrones season has aired, and we’re already looking beyond the premiere at what’s coming next for our favorite characters. Without spoiling the first episode for anybody who hasn’t seen it yet, I’ll say it feels a lot like the first act of any movie.
